Is this used Bike a good or bad deal?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i think you should keep looking. first problem is the broken shifters. you'll have to pick up some old shifters for nearly half the price of the bike.

Looks pretty solid to me. those pedals go for like $100 as is. Depending on what is wrong with those shifters they might be fixable or just need a tune up.

That logic doesn't hold up to scrutiny. If someone was selling a 2008 Cervelo with Record components for $350 and it needed $175 worth of replacement parts it would be a screaming good deal.

A better way to look at it is, add the bike purchase price plus the cost of replacement components and compare that to a fully functioning used bike of the same level.

But I'm going to agree with johnny0, keep looking. Brifters may be only part of problem. Unless that bike is exactly your size and you've been jonesing for that model Trek in metallic green for years.

If it passed inspection, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.

GO FOR IT, (if it is the right size). you can fix it up cheap by going down tube shifter.
