Cheap eBay CF bottle cages - anyone try 'em?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cheap eBay CF bottle cages - anyone try 'em?

Something like these: https://cgi.ebay.com/D5-Pair-Bicycle-...d=p3286.c0.m14

I reckon that there can't be that many factories making these things, and some of these Chinese sellers must be unloading some unlabelled cages that some companies sell at huge prices. Anyone know?

"Cheap", "Carbon" and "Ebay" are things that shouldn't be combined.

Link is invisible. Either way, I'd give them a shot. Bottle cages are about the only part on your bike that won't injure you if it fails.

I would disagree with this when it comes to inexpensive chinese carbon ones. It would just take something hitting it at the right angle to snap the end off and have it skewer you in the leg or perhaps a major artery. Stranger things have happened.

There are a ton of factories making carbon cages. Those are cheap and probably flexy. My guess is someone is trying to ditch their stock.

10 bucks. Give'm a whirl.

Seriously never saw the point of most of the cheap carbon cages out there. I have seen too many of them fling their contents over some mild terrain.

Tacx Tao FTW.

My guess is that they wont hang on to the bottle to save themselves and you will be forever turning around for your bottle and if your on a group ride you may take down your fellow riders.

Check these out, https://cgi.ebay.com/CAT-EYE-ULTRA-LI...2em118Q2el1247

Nearly as cheap but MUCH better.

I bought a pair of those in a swap meet a year ago and installed them on a tri bike I built for a friend. They look good, seem to be well made and so far do a decent job at holding the bottle in place. They are by no means comparable to Arundel cages, but they are not a bad deal for 10% of the price.

I picked up a pair of these off eBay earlier this year...

They actually work pretty good...

Have not dropped a bottle and the carbon is holding up...

My fingers are crossed as I am typing this...

Oh, come on! Just buy one, try flexing it in your hands a little bit and if it doesn't shatter catastrophically, put a bottle in it and ride the thing until it shatters catastrophically.

Highly over rated.

The hard plastic resign mars your waterbottle. I used to use them but got tired of having to turn around to fetch my waterbottle out of a ditch.

The plus side is that you can bend them to be a bit tighter but, like all things, they will eventually break, too.

Cages should be viewed as disposable items, IMHO.

So after buying a water bottle cage that weighs 50 grams (2oz) less are you going to use it to carry 20 ounces of regular weight water?

I've used pretty much everything out there and they have all failed, eventually. Some just last longer than others.

I've bought a couple of cheap aluminum ones from the sports section at Target or Walmart .... work fine for $5 or so.
At least the aluminum ones can be tightened.

I have a pair (different model though) from that seller and they are excellent. Seriously guys I dont think you can **** up a cf bottle cage (its not like a load bearing component or anything) even if its made in china... The quality is excellent atleast in my cages and I have zero doubts about them. Two (real) CF bottle cages with free shipping for 29$, you cant really beat that. Insane to pay like 100-150 for practically same cages with a different logo.

I also bought a pair of carbon cages from this ebay seller. Nice product and shipping was about 10 days. $22.00 each this past Spring.

I'm not saying this couldn't happen, but I think I'd worry more about getting hit by a deer running out of the woods.
