Might want to rethink the hurricane comment. When Ike ripped up through Louisville, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland, it left over a million customers in the Cincinnati region without power... some of us for over a week.... not to mention one friend dead from a tree crashing into her house. Yes... hurricanes can still pack a punch when they reach the midwest. I think most of us here thought the storm was going up through Illinois, but it turned sharply instead.

Dress in layers, get a good winter jacket, put something on your head under your helmet, winter gloves, and booties. I just use toe covers though with chemical warmers instead of booties (down to like 15 degrees).
The ones PCad posted up there are the best. Don't get knock offs. You can usually find them in bulk for like $40 which should last a while.

Sounds interesting.

stole your bike
Sure, but that ends up being more of an inconvenience compared to other disasters that cause people to lose their homes like earthquakes, tornadoes, wild fires etc. I've had the misfortune of slipping on icy and snowy roads so I hope we won't see too much snow this winter.

Do any of you NOT wear helmets during the winter? I mean, I sometimes wear just a beanie but that even gets hot sometimes.
Winter cycling is both awesome and horrible.

Doesn't the toe warmer go inside the shoe, over the sock?

They're Italian. Not Japanese. And now you know why anyone who thinks Campy can make electronic shifters work should refer to my experience with Sidi. And don't even think about bringing up Ferrari. Ferraris cost $300K, not $250.
I use those toe warmer packs. Costs me about $80 for enough to last the winter.
Warm toes are worth $20/month. To me.

Had them last winter. They were great. When they worked. Each set I had (I went through three) broke. My LBS finally refunded the money and stopped carrying them. EVERY set they sold went bad (at least a dozen). Great concept, if they worked I'd buy another pair.

He says he's ridden that setup down to -65F. That's HTFU.

Those Lake cycling shoes are like Frankenstein's boots.
