cleveland riding?
I'm traveling to cleveland this weekend, i'll be staying downtown next to the clowns, i mean browns stadium. anyone from the area? know where to ride? any resources out there to tell me about? if any I'd appreciate any help. thanks a bunch.

I was in Cleveland for the first time this past summer, and I also stayed near the Browns' stadium, actually at the Holiday Inn just up the hill from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (worth a visit if you haven't been) at 12th & Lakeview. I rode along the waterfront past the small airport out to Rockefeller Park and up MLK Blvd to University Circle and back. There were bike paths along some of it, other parts were on the road. None of the roads were all that busy on a weekday morning. I actually stayed on the road on MLK because the path had too many bumps. I only saw one other bike the whole time, so this isn't a popular route I guess, but what do I know. It was my first time in Cleveland. There is probably a popular bike route in Cleveland somewhere, but this route won't require any driving.

if you're looking for some moderate distance, check out the emerald necklace. it's cleveland's best feature. http://www.clemetparks.com/recreation/hiking/index.asp

PM me, there are also a few other NEOH guys around here.

You can ride out of the Erie canal metro park off of 49th which connects on to the towpath that rolls all the way into Akron and past, if Im not mistaken. The link for the metroparks is the place to start, as was previously posted.

not too many people actually live IN cleveland, so the likelihood of seeing other people that wont knife you is low. Stay out of MLK park at night as far as good riding goes, nothing in the city, go south and east and there is a lot of nice riding. There are some paths around the city though...best of luck and like they said, above check the metroparks website.

hahaha should I be strapped for this ride?

Downtown is a breeze to ride around through...just beware the afternoon rush, especially at the moment with all the interbelt construction. You can also go over the Lorain-Carnegie or Detriot-Superior bridges (or down through the flats) to explore the west side, or pick up the lakefront bikeway at the E 9th St pier.
|
I'll be right at the coast guard station on east ninth. sounds good. I don't know my way around Cleveland at all. just a little weary about some places.

Downtown is laid out pretty much in your typical city grid. Between Carnegie to the south, W9th to the west, and E30th or so to the east, you'll see plenty of people riding who you might be able to hook up with...and they probably won't stab you unless they are late for class or you're wearing a Steelers jersey |
Euclid now has a bike lane, it may be worth it to ride down from public square to University Circle, but I would not go any further than E120th. Not very scenic but it is basically our main strip which has recently been redone.

I'd stab myself if i was wearing a worthlessbuerger jersey! no offense to the steelers fans out there!

If you ride over Superior bridge (the mini sydney harbour bridge as i call it) and down detroit ave for a while, you can dive into the rocky river reservation of the metroparks for some nice riding. Basically find your way into the metroparks and i think you'll be happy. If you have a cross bike or a mtn bike and you're around on wednesday evenings....come to Edgewater Park at 6pm (close to downtown) for an hour of pain...if you like that kinda thing (i mean, you ARE a cyclist ;) )
