Positive Police/Bike interaction
As I wrote my thread about how claremont's finest should get glock leg, testicular cancer, and then clipped by some jackass driving in the shoulder, I realized that I wasn't furthering the community of cyclists and officers.
So, share your positive police/cyclist stories, cause I sure don't have any.

Well I had a Sheriff's SUV pass less than 12" from me on a 4 lane highway last month.
Oh, sorry, I see you wanted 'positive' stories.. I don't have any of those.

I sometimes get waved at by this one cute lady police officer in my area. She used to go to my gym I think.
That is about all I have.

My friend flatted on a ride earlier this summer, and as we were fixing it a policeman driving by stopped and said
"It looks like you fellows have it under control but I thought I'd check to see if you needed any help"
We thanked him and assured him we were fine, and he drove off.

All of the police in my area swing wide and wave when they pass me, I guess they appreciate my blinky (super bright) and yellow jersey. That and that I follow all the 'rules of the road.'

Only positive experiences with the cops I've had is not being ticketed for blowing through stop signs and lights in front of them.....
Other than that I try to avoid them at all costs
That being said ill get a ticket in the next week
This is a bad thread it has bad luck all over it hahahaha
"Knocks on wood"
*edit* I actually did borrow a leatherman tool from a city cop once for a quick fix stripped the bolt on the rear wheel but we made it home

I once had a cop help keep my friend's neighborhood safe from thugs, by stopping a dangerous 19 year old that was riding his bike home through her neighborhood at 2 in the morning. Unfortunately I was the "dangerous teenager" and he threatened to arrest me for Loitering and Prowling.
But seriously. No positive stories here.

I passed two camelbak wearing bicycle cops on a mup once, they were stopped and one moved off the path so I could pass, they both waved and said hello... well at least its not a negative encounter, that's the best I can do.

Ok, screw the positive. I want to tell the story. Last month, I got pulled for slow rolling a stop sign for an intersection clear for 3 blocks. Officer McFriendly is really obnoxious (but doesn't right a ticket) DON'T YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO STOP! IT CONFUSES PEOPLE, etc.
Tonight, I'm riding home from the grocery store - blinkers ablaze, lights on, etc. I come to intersection, stop (with foot down). The car in front of me goes, the car to the right of me goes. I go (it's my turn). I got half way across, turning left. The car coming to the right runs through the stop sign, I take evasive action, and his mirror clips my bag.
I yell several choices four letter words, and BOOM. Flashing lights. I'm getting pulled. For yelling awful things in front of Officer McFriendly's kids school, and told to watch my mouth.

I was hammering maniacally to work the other morning and ground to a halt at a light. (I always stop at red lights but slow roll thru stop signs if it's clear). About 10 secs later an officer on an MTB rolls up beside me and says "I couldn't catch you!" I said, "Did you want to?" "Yeah!" I just laughed and dropped him when the light turned. Funny, it seemed like he got some kind of kick out of being dropped by a GIRL!
Almost everybody I know hates cops in general but I have never personally had an issue with them. Of course, I am a law abiding whitey w/ a home and a job, so Your Privelege May Vary.

I'm fairly sure that yelling 4 letter words anywhere is legal. The whole 1st amendment thing. Not sure though. I don't think that legality Was really the point. There was some sort of parent teacher conference thing.... Lots of folk there at 7 at night.

I actually DO have a positive story about police and bicyclist interaction.
I was riding on the MUP one day in a remote area along the beach and this black & white was driving slowly along coming towards me. They were taking the whole width of the pathway and I stopped to let them by. As they came even with me, the driver rolled down his window and said that I didn't have to stop for them. As he was speaking I noticed that he and his partner both had double dipper ice cream cones.
At that point I realized that the concession stand at the travel park up the trail 1/4 mile was open for the summer. Had the two nice officers not blocked the trail with their car I wouldn't have known that factoid. So I thanked the officers, rode the 1/4 mile, & stopped for my own cone and a short rest break.

Today a cop nearly right-hooked me by passing closely, then steering quickly into a driveway with no blinker.

This isn't a bike story, but...
three drunk freshmen wanna-be frat boys walked down my street and kicked our picket fence down. we followed them outside at midnight and called the cops on a cellphone.
i didn't have my contacts in and couldn't see crap, but i see headlights coming up the street at the freshmen, then i hear a "GET ON THE HOOD!" and a loud thump. since they were underage, one kid tried to throw away his ID and instantly got thrown on the hood again, cuffed, and tossed into the cruiser. then, two more cars pulled up, one of them unmarked. the cops proceeded to refer to the first kid as "dip****," nearly made another kid cry (it was hilarious, especially when he did the "what" move at us where you puff your chest out and throw your hands back), then came and checked the damage at our house, leaving us with a number to call if we had any more trouble, and also if we needed the police to confirm the situation with our landlord. it was pretty awesome.
i used to not really like cops, but the whole situation changed my perspective a lot.

it's actually illegal in the state of michigan to swear within earshot of women and children. it's been famously enforced a handful of times.

There's some law aganst swearing in UK too.
Yesterday some cyclist was pulled over by 2 bike cops, 2 foot cops, a police van and a police car. He was in the "don't screw with me pose", had a dumb looking bike with no lights (riding at night). He sure looked like a dumb ass. Not sure why there were soamy cops though.

San Dimas cops for the win.
Rode halfway into an intersection a few weeks ago then stopped suddenly once i saw the cop. Freaked out and clipped back in. Luckily, he didn't go after me.
Well I guess that's more neutral than anything.

No swearing in Va Beach. They have signs up all along the board walk that have the red circle with the slash through it and "$&#!" in the middle. Don't know if anyone's been caught for it but if they went through the trouble of making all those signs...

Nothing negative to add but like Fremdchen said....I am a white guy living in Midwest Suburbia who obeys the rules of the road. I don't give them much reason to F* with me.
