Effects of a Pink Helmet?

I am considering getting a T-Mobile Uvex Boss Race. The reason is that is will look different and stand out in races. Even if I return to a race having only participated once, people will probably recognize the helmet, because it is so uncommon of a colour.

My question is, do you think I will achieve the desired effect? Will I be remembered for the wrong reasons? Would I double my harassments (me being on the receiving end) when wearing this thing around town?

Will nobody care?

I would do a poll, but lack the knowledge to do so.

El Pelon 10-09-08 10:20 PM

Who cares?

scattered73 10-09-08 10:25 PM

I wear my t-mobile jersey just to irritate rednecks, good fun.

Just don't wash it with your whites or they will also turn pink.

The only reason I would get this is to manipulate how/if others perceive or remember me. If I could get all of the protection of a helmet as well as other (social) benefits, I might as well make my dollar go the farthest it can.

I'm thinking I'll go for it.

mattm 10-09-08 10:30 PM

go for it

fourteenbucks 10-09-08 10:31 PM

You will be noticed, that's for sure. But any attention is better than no attention.

weavers 10-09-08 10:32 PM

i wore a pink helmet once. i passed by a high school and a group of kids were walking by. one shouted "men don't get boobie cancer!" so stopped and turned around and unzipped my jersey. i dunno why, there are no scares on my chest and i've never had breast cancer.

btw if you wanna be remember at a race you gotta do something amazing like win or bunny hop a rider that just crashed, or pull entire group you for 90% at say 30mph then not finsh the race or pull out a cig halfway up a steap climb. don't be a fred by wearing something dumb to get noticed.

I think it would be great. When you bring your wife/girlfriend/mistress to your races, she will be able to spot you in the pack every lap.

And people wonder why we get things thrown at us.

Chucklehead 10-09-08 11:28 PM

There was a dude who wore a pink Atmos at races this year. Everytime I saw him, I thought "Dude's wearing a pink helmet.."

merckx_rider 10-10-08 12:01 AM

So... you're a dude? and you wonder if people will remember you in a race for wearing a pink helmet?
WTF? Sorry but that is just sad.
Win, people will remember you. If i lined up next to you with your pink helmet I'd move to a safer place.
I'd think you're a fred, and do since you posted such a lame question.

I have no idea what you are talking about. How, in what way, does a pink helmet "manipulate" people's perceptions of you?

Anyway, if you are going to buy it, go to Amazon.com for a better price, if they still have the pink ones. I have two Uvex helmets and they are terrific, whatever the colors.

I hope so, if he's a 20 something worried about this kind of nonsense then that's a bit sad.

:twitchy:

nocondorfx 10-10-08 07:59 AM

It's just a sign that says 'hey, i'm fast.' Same goes for pink bartape and pink seat. If your not fast, then its a faux pas.

They started it, I just find it funny how simple colors and tight clothing seem to arouse rednecks.

HigherGround 10-10-08 08:16 AM

Do you really want to risk being known as the Purple Helmeted Warrior?

robncircus 10-10-08 08:29 AM

Wow I think people missed the lack of seriousness in this thread. Anyway, I'd go fo it. I used to ride a pink bike (and I have another waiting for a build). You'll get noticed if you wear the helmet but even more if you win in it so you can come back here and tell thehaters to stfu :thumb: As far as I'm concerned pink is a man's color and most of my gf's have always liked when I wear it.

Good luck

Rob

Rosso Corsa 10-10-08 08:41 AM

I think it would be a good thing only if it was worn while fairly consistently winning races. Otherwise, I would be remembered as the distinctive pack fodder, or guy who always loses the sprint, etc.

I think I will wait until (when/if) I start consistently winning in the next few years before I go for it. I will embrace my stealthiness and keep my cards close to my chest.

I think a better way to get noticed would be to win on my 28 pound steel bike I have been racing thus far. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for all the responses.

Dude, it's just a color. You're not going to "manipulate" ***** with a color. Nobody outside of high school is going to care.

Don't say that to Euro bikers.
