Why No Latino Cyclists?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why No Latino Cyclists?

I've been cycling for nearly 13 years and the only other Latino I've seen out the looks like a white dude!

Am I the only Mr Beanz out there?

We have several Latinos in my bike club, (road bikes), and at my work a few mountain bikers.

I enjoy your Mr. Beanz moniker.

Also, college taught me that the "L-Word" is highly offensive to.... your people. Is it one of those things where you trick me into using your word and then beat me up?

On topic: There are at least 2-3 regulars on my group ride, and I can't swing a dead cat without hitting half a dozen riding around for utilitarian purposes (if that counts).

Yeah, me, my cousins Chuey and Guadalupe!

Latino and Hispanic are blessings compared to what I have been called. Back in the 70's we were called "TacoBenders" on a daily basis! Hmmm, someday, I'm going to learn how to speak Spanish!

I've never heard of any actual Latino person being offended by either "Latino" or "Hispanic"

it's like "black" and "African-American" afaict, some people will insist one of them is offensive but nobody actually gets offended by them because they're totally normal terms...

Anyway back on topic!

You know what your problem is.. You never ride anywhere but that damned bike trail. Get out to some of the races and you'll find plenty of your brothers and sisters.

It was mostly tongue in cheek as I reminisced back to my oh-so-stereotypical Ethnic Studies class. And you just typed at leat THREE offensive terms (parenthesis are no excuse) which is as good as saying them out loud, you white devil.

Hah. My wife had the landscapers install a drip system when we re-did the backyard. But I never use it because it's a pain in the butt. My cousin said, You mean because it's more Mexican to use a hose?

I see lots of Latino dudes on my group rides. Gimbels has a whole Spanish-speaking contingent on it every week. Many of those guys can bring the pain, too. There's also a racing team in the area founded by some Colombian guys... I think they're based out of Greenwich.

Beanz, where do you ride? My cycling team is 99.5% Latino and there are tons of latinos at the races here in So Cal.
