Size up or size down for windbreaker?

I'm in between sizes of our team windbreaker/light rain jacket. The small is "just right" snug in the chest, but the sleeves are short - I'd have about 0.5-1" of exposed wrist between gloves and jacket. The medium is a bit loose in the chest (will probably flap some), but the sleeves are a good length. So the small may be a little more "aero", but the medium might be good for putting a couple extra layers underneath if I need them. So, would you go down to the small or up to the medium?

BTW, I already have a windbreaker that fits well all-over that I will use for most of my riding by myself, but I want to get a team jacket also. So please refrain from the "Buy a jacket the fits right, dipship." responses.

When will you ride with the windbreaker on the most? If it's short rides, get the bigger one, if long rides, get the small one.

Does it have those strap thingies that go around you thumbs and keep the sleeves from riding up?

I went smaller than normal and it works pretty well for me. YMMV.

I'd go big on a windbreaker for comfort.

Size UP!! The moment you want to wear something underneath, the smaller size will be too small.

Size up, have a tailor take the body in.

I sized down, because the last time I sized up I couldn't stand the flapping. I've grown accustomed to tight.

Oh, another reason to size up ... most of us tend to gain a little bit of weight over the winter.

Which gives you a good reason to size down. It will create an incentive :D

Yeah, in about March, when I can't breathe in my jacket anymore ... I tend to start losing weight. :D

No, the windbreaker does not have the thumb loops. I wish it did, I have those on a TNF jacket I commute in, and wear around campus, and really like it.

The tailor idea is not bad. I also have a pair of bibs that one of the flat-stitched seams is unraveling and I've been meaning to take it to a tailor somewhere to see if it can be saved.

Winter weight? What's that? You mean you can't cycle year round? What?

Shhhhhhhhhh! You'll make everybody want to move here. Tell them about the high property prices, the gangs, the smog, the earthquakes, the cancer causing sun, the... the... the...

Oh, I cycle year round, and I supplement my cycling with walking, snowsports, weightlifting, etc. But I think there's just something genetic that tells my body to gain weight when it starts to get cold.

buy both and rip the arms off. use the small jacket's torso and the med jacket arms. take it to an alterations place/dry cleaner ask them to install zippers, as wind/water proof as they can get and make sure you have armpit vents. best part is when your arms are to hot you can just unzipp them. if you really want you can add mess vents(cut out 2 inches of fabric and replace it with black mesh, like safty vest mesh) it will make it far more breathable. would take like 30mins with a soewing machine, maybe 1.5 hours if you've never used one before.

the med torso jacket you can mend it and sell it on ebay and say "its in used condition but never worn." or just rip the back off and repace it with mesh, so you got windproof in the front and omg breathablity in the back. then spray paint your red neck team logo on the back with reflective paint.

seriously thought get the med so you can easly wear layers underneath. i very much doubt you will notice any fabric flapping in the wind unless you have a 50mph sprint
