'09 TdF route: Sweet mother!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

'09 TdF route: Sweet mother!

This puppy is built for TV. Add in the list of players expected, and it could be interesting.

Take a look.

Glad the TTT is back.

The rumor has been that they'll pick the Ventoux stage for L'Etape

At least the Team TT is back. I think it should be more fun this year. Now, if only I get VS wherever I am at that time.

TTT are probably the most spectator friendly part of road bike racing, outside of track racing and maybe cyclocross.

I like the addition of the stage to Barcelona, should be a raucous time there! The Bretons cannot be too happy about the exclusion of their area though.

Something about having to take a plane ride from one stage of a bicycle race to another seems wrong, to me.

Yeah I guess that's true, nothing like seeing suffering up close and personal at 10 mph instead of 40.

Add me to the people glad TTT is back. Coolest part to watch IMHO. And the airplane thing seems messed up to me too. I guess there was no other way though.

I think it was for Lance. Hence the "one too many loogies" statement.

There are routinely transfers in the TDF. It's better than just putting in long, boring transition stages just to avoid a transfer.

The Course is always designed within certain paramaters. It's going to end in Paris. It's going to start in a City, and go through certain cities that pay for the privilege. Then it's going to have to use a number of Mountains that historically have been used in the Tour, and it has to go through both the Alpes and the Pyranees.

You often can't accomplish all those things without either stupid long boring transition stages, or transfers.

From a spectators point of view, the riders can put up with some transitions if it makes a more interesting race.

Yeah. I understand why they do it. It just seems to take away from some of the mystique, personally.

Maybe it they drove, in old fashioned cars, it would help.

I too am a fan of the TTT, even though Astana is going to run away with it.

Its going to be an interesting race, I'm not a big fan of the new blood in the sport. Outside Contador, there doesn't seem to be anyone replacing the names of the early 2000's. That being said, is Basso going to be in it?

Mont Ventoux as the last real stage! That's a cliff hanger right there.

Contador (on the BBC website)

"The more I look at the map, the more I like [the route].
"I really think that everything will be decided before Mont Ventoux, but for the one wearing the yellow jersey at that moment, there will be a terrible pressure."

You think!

I guess that if Liquigas are in, then they won't sit him out.

Why the airplane though? Don't all the team vehicles have to drive there anyway?
