Rideus Interruptus
Probably because it was snowing last night, I started to lament the end of the cycling season around here--no doubt prematurely since we probably won't see snow that sticks for another month or so--but that didn't stop me from bumming.
So anyway, sometime before dawn I start to have this lovely dream. I'm at work--60 miles from home--and for some reason I can't use my car to get home. "Hey, I'll ride my bike," I say to myself. So I get all geared up and ready to hit the road. It's around 4:00 p.m., but all downhill, so I figure I'll be home right around dark. I hop on the bike and realize that I don't have my glasses. Get off and tear my office apart until I find them. Get back on the bike and head out. Feels great! Then I look down and realize that the bike is the wrong color. I'm riding my beater MTB. I get off the bike, and look around for my road bike. Finally find it and head out. It really feels great to be on my way. Look down--no shoes! *****! Get off the bike and search around until I finally find my shoes. Get back on the bike and head out. Feeling fantastic to finally be on my way. Alarm goes off. Generally, this happens in dreams about my other favorite recreational activity, so I'm a little worried about what this all means from a psychological point of view. Of course, it beats the dream I had the night before, which involved taking an exam for a class that I hadn't attended all semester. I've been out of school for more than 30 years. Probably the next one will involve heading to that same exam on my bike in my underwear, when I'm stopped by a beautiful woman with certain, urgent, specific personal needs and----alarm goes off. |
