Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

L'Etape du Tour 2009

L'etape is an incredible experience; the closest most of us will ever get to riding the TDF..

And next year's Etape will be fantastic. Finishing on Mt Ventoux will be epic, even if the total stage is a bit easier than some past Etape's.

I'd love to do L'etape du tour -- 2009 probably won't be my year though

It does look easier than some recent Etape's; 3 category 3's then the HC climb.

Finishing on Mt Ventoux, I think it will still be pretty cool. And those who go out too hard will pay for it on Ventoux.

agreed, but it looks like the only real challenge on the course.

I believe that Alexi Grewal once responded to criticisms that the '84 Olympic road race course wasn't tough enough by saying that any course is hard if you go fast enough.

But I agree with merlinextraligh. If I were doing it, I'd keep plenty in reserve for the finish!
