Just bought an '06 Cervélo Soloist

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just bought an '06 Cervélo Soloist

Today I picked up a 56cm Cervélo Soloist (black 2006 model) equipped with a complete Campagnolo Veloce 9-speed group for $750. The frame is pristine and the rest of the bike is in very good to excellent condition. The wheels are a basic Mavic aero rim laced to Campy hubs; they're not the sexiest wheels, but will work for quite a while. All in all, how did I do? Would you plan on wheels for the next upgrade or would I benefit elsewhere?

Awesome deal. Wheels should be the next upgrade if you're riding is typically above 20mph or are climbing 5k feet. Otherwise I'd just ride.

I'm looking for my camera. I just got lucky I guess--maybe this makes up for the $300 Kestrel I missed last year. The only thing is the Veloce components look a bit out of place on the frame.

If the bike's in good condition which you say it is, then congrats on a great purchase. I do wonder why the seller put such a low price, but enjoy the bike!

Sorry for the lousy photo but a quick shot in the basement is all I could get for now. I haven't made any anjustments yet, so don't be too critical of the set-up.

The seller is a genuinely nice guy and very successful businessman. His garage was full of nice toys so I guess he just wanted to get rid of part of his stable. I am very lucky to have found this bike; it's nicer than anything I could normally afford.

WOW! That was my first race bike and I still regret selling it.

I'd pay $750 for that frame.

Good find!

I believe that's a soloist team. Regardless, do you know if that fork's been recalled? Great purchase!

Uhhhh that's a $2200 dollar MSRP bike, not it's $4,000+ cousin.

Still a good deal, but not amazing.

Yes, not amazing. Good deal nevertheless, I remember last year someone snagged a Specialized S-works with DA 10 speed for $1k, now that's an amazing deal. Anything around 25% of MSRP and it's no more than 2 years old is an amazing deal.

Keep the Veloce, upgrade the wheels when you're ready, and ride the hell out of it.

I don't know anything about the fork and the owner, who kept meticulous records about the bike, didn't know either. How would I find out about the fork?

If I am correct, it would be a $2200 MSRP bike if it was Ultegra equipped, right? This bike has Veloce so it wouldn't cost that much new--i think?

Anyway, it's a better bike than I could usually afford, so to me it's an amazing deal

Your fork is the Wolf CL, it has NOT been recalled. The Wolf SL (on the Dura-Ace SLC) is the recalled fork.
