Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bay Area Riders?

Hey all, I'm new here and new to riding. Do any of you know any groups who go out, namely groups who are either newbies like me, or take it slow guys that would allow me to ride along with them. It's much harder to get out consistantly by myself.

i ride in berkeley a lot by myself. i would enjoy having someone to ride with on weekends or week nights.

also: these guys seem pretty accommodating to everyone. i've never ridden with them, but i'd like to if i remember...next time they're riding and i'm free.

edit: i usually ride up through the hills (tunnel rd. to grizzly peak), at the marina, and sometimes i go to lake merrit and do a few loops down there, then ride home again. drop me a pm if you wanna meet up some time.

I've ridden with them once, plan to go out with them again tomorrow morning. Every Saturday (weather permitting), 9am at Children's Fairyland in Oakland until next month, when the "official ride season" kicks in - then rides start from different places, usually earlier on Sat. morning.

It's a good group - social rather than super-competitive. You should give it a try.

I'm in SJ... and a newbie to bike riding. would like to ride with some people over the weekends... don't really want to join a group or anything.. unless if everyone is pretty much a newbie. just wanted to go out and enjoy riding.

Ruirui,

You can ride with a club without joining the club. They will make you sign a release at the start of the ride. You can check out the ride schedules for Western Wheelers and Almaden Cycle Tour Club at their websites.
