any body meet someone they don't like
 

only to find out later on that they cycle on a "team" (more like a club). And the individual also bike commutes to work :( Kinda put a downer on the day for me.

I'd almost rather have the situation be something like this:

Go for a group ride (know the individual already enjoys cycling) THEN find out the person is somebody I don't like.

It was just the surprise of this guy cycling that threw me off. Don't get me wrong... I'm usually ok with meeting people, sometimes I just get that sense that he/she is a ******bag.

Eh... oh well, it takes all kinds I guess.

regaurdless, chat it up. I tend to initially not like those who I'll end up liking later on. Maybe you'll find out they're a better person than you thought. Unless they really are a ******bag, haha

I'd rather find out they're a d-bag first. It's happened before where I've met someone through a hobby (mainly cars), then find out they're a complete d-bag. But then I'm stuck seeing that at events, and chatting it up with them, because our first interaction was one where I seemed friendly and engaging.

Then you somehow get stuck helping them work on their car. Then they come over to your house to use your tools. Then leave their car at your house for over a month "working" on it, and end up dating your wife's best friend. Then turn out to be a woman-hitter, and eventually you threaten to have his car towed, and apparently he's bi-polar, and rips a few people off on the internet by not shipping them parts he promised, and they know you know him so you're left trying to explain his actions....

...wait, what?

Just because someone rides a bike isn't going to make their unlikebale personality traits suddenly wonderful. I've met nice people who ride and others who are not so nice, just like in the rest of society.

Tony. Worst person to ride with ever! He had an obsession with some kind of goofy map system that only he could understand but he would try to explain it to anyone who said 'Good Morning.'...for hours on end. In fact, if you want to be an a**hole, you could ask Tony about his maps while riding next to someone and they'd be stuck listening to him for the next 6 days:D

I am thankful for him, however. With him behind me breathing down my neck and attempting to explain his maps for the Avogadro's number time, I was able to complete the fastest century that I've ever ridden...just slightly off a 5 hour time. Thanks, Tony:thumb:

Yea this chick approached me at Bonnaroo in 06. We were waiting for an act to come on and she wanted to sit closer to me so that no one else would walk between us to get up close to the stage. I said sure. We began talking about last nights Tom Petty performance. She loved it. I said it sucked. (It did)

Then she practically screamed, 'oh my god!' when she got a whiff of some mary jane. Hello? Earth to girl. You're at bonnaroo. That's the culture that goes to bonnaroo. I proceeded to stop talking to her and once the band came on I distanced myself from her when everyone stood up.

She was weird.

(No, I don't smoke weed, but I at least am not oblivious to what to expect in certain areas. I bet she'd expect Yankees fans to stop acting like awholes at a Yankees game too.)

He took his car home, and I called him out online (local car forums). I didn't defend him at all, pretty much he was an unreliable jerk and I let people know. My wife's friend makes really dumb decisions, she moved in with the guy, eventually kicked him out. He sold his car, and pretty much disappeared somewhere.

riding a bike does not mean you can walk on water (just don't tell the Living Car Free forum that).

It is funny how people get put on a pedestal because of their cycling abilities. It's like being a fast rider makes them a good person. There are some a-holes on bikes (one in particular) that almost get worshipped around here because they can go fast.
On the other hand, the pros I have met have for the most part been friendly and down to earth.

If you take 100 Catholic nuns at random, all of them aren't going to be as loving as Mother Theresa. Take 100 of any group of people and you're going to like some better than others. Why should bike riders be any different? Try to assiciate with folks that you like and avoid the ones that you don't.
