Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have something new to obsess over

I was in a bike shop yesterday and I put my Kuota Kredo carbon bike in the rack next to a Colnago carbon bike. Usually people look at my bike and drool a bit, but the shop guys were drooling over the Colnago instead. The bike's owner was telling them about what was on it, but I wasn't really listening until I heard it weighs 14 and a half pounds! I lifted it up and couldn't believe how much lighter it was than mine, and mine is no heavyweight.

So, he had Record, I have Chorus, he had one piece carbon stem/bar, I have Deda Newton/Magic, he had zero gravity brakes, I have the older solid Chorus, he had Hyperon Ultra tubulars, I don't. I did a quick calc in my head and came up with about $3k, maybe more to upgrade my bike. Then I did a quick calc and came up with about 20lbs to lose around my middle that costs $0. I get much better bang for the buck by spending the 3k, don't you think?

Actually, losing the weight would give you money, since you'd be spending less on food. But yeah, go with buying the bike instead.
