If you're insecure enough to wonder what people might think about your saddlebag, you can always kill two birds with one stone and stuff all the tools and things you need down the front of your shorts.

I have two saddlebags on my bike.
Personally, I would never wear a duct taped shirt...but on some folks it looks fine...and if you need duct tape for something, you've got it right there.

I've been contemplating going this route as well as I have 2 cages and only really use 1 for a water bottle. Then again, I'm not so sure it's going to fit my blackberry as well as some other things i need to carry, maybe a box of cigs

In stark contrast to all the unstylish people falling over themselves to point out that they definitely don't care what they look like, I strive to keep everything sexy as hell. My saddle bag is looking nice. Sometimes, I'll just put my supplies in the jersey pockets for an extra sexy look. I'm getting all worked up just thinking about it.

Actually, your best bet might be to forget about the saddlebag, sell your bike and just stay home and eat pizza and smoke cigarettes. It's cheaper in the long run.

The only time I even see my saddle bag is when I'm not riding, so ride more and you won't notice it as much.

you sound offended for some reason, alas sell my bike, how would I continue to participate in NYC biathlons/duathlons? then again maybe it's the idea of me riding with a saddlebag that gets you worked up?

But, I should warn you: the clips holding the two flat pieces together can break pretty easily, causing the bag to be jettisoned OTB. Not good if you're ripping down a hill, or are riding with other folks who might have a problem dodging the thing. Mine came apart after hitting a small pothole, but I was able to get it back without a problem.
I used long, thin cable ties between the two plates to bring the thing together. It won't break again, in that spot at least. The jury is still out on the seat-rail attachment system.
As for the OP, lame is, as lame does, I suppose.

I never use a seatbag, not cause its ugly or heavy I just don't need one. I stuff a co2 pump, extra co2 cannister, tire levers, tube, patch kit and $5 into a bottle coozie then stuff that into the middle pocket of my jersey. I then put power bars and my cell phone in my other pockets. Works just fine for me.

I guess that's why people get to choose what they do to their bikes. Personally i like as little crap in my pockets as possible. i've never ever noticed my saddlebag on my bike and it's not like it's really extra weight since all the same crap is going inside.. and if you're worried about 4 grams of nylon then you have bigger issues.
I see no advantage to the water bottle idea.. if you use it when you don't need that bottle it's still on your bike and isn't a "clean look" and if you do need both bottle holders for water then you have to resort to something else for your crap.
plus if it's always on the bike it will never get forgotten.. i might have to laugh a bit if someone didn't put their repair stuff in their pockets and got screwed.. then i'd let them use my pump that is nicely attached to my bike for easy storage.

I use this bag, looks slightly better than most black nylon bags, keeps its form and costs about the same:
