Sachs or Dawes?

They're pretty much the same, right? Which would you consider?

Whichever one fits best?

But, Sachs.

MadeInItaly 10-28-08 07:30 PM

One isn't taking new orders. That should narrow it down.

MadeInItaly 10-28-08 07:30 PM

PS: I pick RS....

Shouldn't customs fit without saying??

mollusk 10-28-08 07:34 PM

Interesting bait. What are you fishing for?

MadeInItaly 10-28-08 07:35 PM

I never heard of Dawes so I googled it. Now I'm really confused.

Quijibo187 10-28-08 07:43 PM

from reading rads previous posts, I doubt he's ordering a new custom.
I'd go with sachs, the dawes name has been tainted.

Hocam 10-28-08 07:48 PM

Assuming you're looking at already bikes, so Sachs. To me, Dawes is along the lines of Bob Jackson. Nice fancy lug work, British, but nothing mind blowing. Sachs is understated elegance taken to new heights.

Creakyknees 10-28-08 08:08 PM

whatever.

lugged steel: as long as the builder is competent, and you're fitted correctly, the rest is marketing and cosmetics.

Dawes USA?

Nevermind, Sachs.

I've seen some pretty poorly fitting custom steel, aluminum, and carbon bicycles.

A "custom" bike shouldn't have two inches of spacers under the stem. Ever.

drpaauwe 10-28-08 09:52 PM

since you can't get a Sachs for now, I say Dave Bohm / Bohemian
or, i've also heard Bilenky is very reasonable.

MadeInItaly 10-28-08 09:57 PM

Agreed..Your point?? Do you use the same inaccurate measurements on your package??

Get the Sachs. It should be ready about the same time as the Tete.

;)

ridethecliche 10-28-08 10:18 PM

^^ Use the macro function next time.

MadeInItaly 10-28-08 10:19 PM

There is one on ebay, what size are you?

If you have a chance to own a Sachs well there's your answer. A shop in L.A. had (has) a beautiful Sachs hanging from the rafters in a 56cm (just my size) for 1800$. If I could have justified the cost (i know, why is that ever needed?) I would have snapped it up in a second.

If you're not up to waiting 5+ years, you could opt for a Pegoretti Luigino. Uses the same tubesets and lugs as Sachs.

(I love those STI bosses on the head tube!)

if you're buying, i'll take a sachs, but that's only because he's a 20 minutes ride away from the family beach house. buy nutmeg.

Once again, he is not taking orders.
