Tour De Gruene W/Lance This morning

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pretty cool to see him actually riding in the local area. If I'd known I'd have the opportunity to have Lance Armstrong kick my ass, I'd have raced in that.

and he did come in something like 5th or something in that cyclocross race

[QUOTE=bdcheung;7782600]It looks like Lance has changed his TT position, adopting a variation of the "praying landis":

Me believes that Levi also uses that variation...but his head seems to be much closer to his wrists (Levi that is).

I remember reading somewhere that Lance had an injury when he was younger (doing tri's?) and does not have the flexibility in his back that others do (fused vertebrae?). If he physically could be lower/flatter, he would.

Levi's seems so different than everyone else. He as like ZERO saddle to bar drop...and in one video, it looked like his aerobars were angled so high, his hands were at the same level as his chin. But whatever...the man can ride...good time trialist.

Levi is pretty short. That's probably all the drop he is capable of getting. He seems to have a negative stem as it is.

and i thought i had a low/short seatpost! if ever i saw a bike that looked like the rider needed a custom frame, that'd be it!

but then again...like i said...the dude kicks some major arse...i guess there's no need for a custom frame trying to achieve the type of fit everyone SAYS you should have...

I think Armstrong changes his position as the season progresses.

As far as the flat-back thing goes, I can agree that it might help in the wind tunnel, but it doesn't help if it robs you of the ability to generate power. Anquetil's position was not flat at all, and he was extremely fast. In looking at film of old races it seemed to me that a lot of great time trialists had an egg-shaped position, including Ritter and even Armstrong when he was faster than every other top-level pro.

In regards to the position - I heard Lance had Steve Hed come out last week to fiddle with bars/position.

On Saturday, he used the higher position.

On day two, he used his more traditional position and said it felt better.

Looking at the two pics together now, doesn't doesn't look much different.

Another thing I read that he's fiddling with is moving his seat down and back a little bit for more power.

I doubt he'd move anything more than 1cm at a time; probably wouldn't show up in a photo.

Pretty good video, not a lot of action, but it ends with a speech... I'm hoping to have a shot at sprinting with College in a couple races next year:

That "second" Lance...isn't.

According to Velonews, it's his training partner, John Korioth,

Is the Caloi, in the top photo, a repainted Eddie Merckx frameset and do I see front suspension (Ruby) on the bike???

The Caloi is an Eddie Merckx frameset. The picture I loaded on the Web is scaled down, but on the downtube it says: CALOI by Eddie Merckx (in smaller letters). The thing you see on the fork is likely the pickup for the bike computer.

edit: picture

Digging around on Picassa, I found some more pics from Mellow Johnny's. I will post a link later. The shop was pretty cool. There were at least 10 important bikes on display, plus Lance's and Contador's signed jerseys. Downstairs were some ridiculous $8k+ bikes (sorry no Cervelos). Even some wooden rims. I was glad I made the detour through Austin coming back to Houston.
