Specialized makes really good pumps, along with Topeka. I'm sure those Silica's are great but don't know if I really wont a pump that will last that long. The thing with my specialized is with the switch hitter pump head, the one that automatically switches between presta and schrader. It always lets a little air out of the tube, because the internals press the presta valve before the pump head is sealed around it. So the tube will have always leaked about 10psi everytime you pump it.
I like the Specialized too. The switchhitter head is easy enough to use. The psi loss? Is 10 psi that big a deal? I'm being a serious noob here....it seems every pump will drop your psi down a bit when you take the head off? |

That loss should only happen when you attach the pump head. When you remove the pump head the presta valve should be shut as the pressure is greater in your tube than the pump head. The escaping air is just coming from your pump.
There is surely a thread somewhere on bf.net for such things. :rolleyes: |
I junked a couple cheapo Performance floor pumps that failed for a JBP. My only complaint is that I'd rather see the JBP pump more air per barrel stroke. If you're just down a few pounds, no big deal. It's only a few strokes.

I have one of the Presta digital press.gauges and I've decided you can go crazy trying to accurately measure what the psi in a tube is because of the 'attachment' loss.

yup, joe blow here too. 2 years. Used 2x per week to 120psi.

I have a Joe Blow Sprint...love it. Works perfect, it's not much different than the Pro and it's a little bit cheaper.

topeak joe blow

Can't recommend Topeak Joe Blow Max and Sport pumps. I had both, and I had frequent problems getting good seal on Presta valves. They seemed to seal OK on Shrader valves though.
Currently using Specialized Air Tool Comp, which is much better at sealing on Presta valves. Also have Blackburn Air Tower 2 and Air Tower 4 pumps. But sometimes have sealing problems on Presta valves. The AT4 has a gauge near the top, but this makes the pump top heavy and prone to tipping over. Plus the angle of the gauge makes it difficult to read while pumping. AT4 is not recommended. The AT2 is better. The Air Tool Comp is the best pump I have used so far. BTW, I had a SKS Rennkompressor pump awhile ago which was a complete disaster! Hardly pumped air. The adpaptor nozzle for Shrader/Presta valves didn't seem to seal properly, and often stuck on Presta valves!! Complete rubbish! Definitely NOT a recommended pump! |

Blackburn Pump Update
I know all you have wondered what I did with the pump (and thanks for all the great advice). I called Blackburn up and they express mailed me two brand new pump hoses and heads - no questions asked. There is no doubt I will continue to support Blackburn after that experience. -GG- |
++++++++++++1 Joe Blow

I have the Joe Blow Sprint and it works very well. Got mine from Nashbar for $31 (it's $45 on their site at present).
