Rolf Vector Wheels
Can somebody tell me if this is a good buy or keep on looking.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/916473360.html thanks. |
The Vector came in 3 models - Vector, Vector Comp and Vector Pro. The Vector was the base model. Not particularly light by today's standards, they were considered solid wheels and were the precursors to many future wheels in both the Rolf and Bontrager lines (long story).
$150 sounds like a fair price if they are in good shape. And from what I can see of the braking surface, they do look OK. 55/Rad |
decent wheels - I'd do it.

Dude they are great wheels....the tool who said that they are not light by todays standards is drunk....Compare weight & strength and get back to me, who makes a lighter wheel and at what price.. some .$500 wheels weigh more than my Rolphs.. Just be careful the rear hub on some models had a history of cracking. it the guy did not pound them they should be golden. but you want to be sure. :thumb:I have been riding mine as a primary wheel for 5-6 years now...Solid fast..

What's the difference? Age and technology...each was an updated version of the other. And yes, I have owned and ridden all 3. 55/Rad |

Okay - a little more...
The ones in the craigslist ad are definitely Vectors, not Vector Comps or Pros. The base model had 20 and 24 ROUND spokes, while the Comp 18/20 and Pro 14/16 both had BLADED spokes. The original base model Vectors MSRP'd for around $300, the Comp was $450 and the Pro carried an asking price of $950. Yes, $950. The base weighed just under 2200 gms, Comp 1900 and the Pro came in at 1680. These are listed weights and are probably not actual, but you get the point. FWIW.... 55/Rad |
here is a good page of info for you....I have the Vector Pros'.....I luv them at under 1700grams and aero they rock fast..

If those wheels are from the Rolf/Trek partnership era, there is a good chance you will not be able to get replacement spokes. I have a set of Vector Pro's from that period and need a spoke for the front wheel. Apparently, there are none available that fit. So the wheels are scrap.

i just picked up a pair of vector comps in good condition for $150 on CL, so im not sure its a great deal for the vectors. the vector comps are great in every respect except weight (~2000g) so im sure the vectors are at least decent, however you might want to wait for a better deal on the vector comps or pros.
