Road shoes for women

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road shoes for women

Any suggestions on road shoes for long distance cycling (centuries, etc.)?

It's all about fit. Having said that I bougt 2 pair of Sidis and wouldn't buy anything else (Of course, with 2 pair, I won't need to).
My wife has a pair of baby blue Shimanos that are less then half the price, but are really pretty decent shoes.

Thanks Late. What model of Sidi do you have? What did they cost roughly?

I have sidi's as well. I tried on at least 2 dozen pairs. I have narrow feet and the sidi's fit perfect so I don't have to wear thick socks. I bought last years model, so I got a 25% discount..

I got a pair of Nike Cipressas, on sale and I really like them. IT also depends on what kind of feet you have- mine are narrow. I've heard that for narrow feet with a narrow heel, DMT is the best but they are very expensive. When I was shopping I also tried specialized and northwave, but liked the Nikes the best. However, if I could afford DMT I would get them.

Hi,
I have the Dominators, and a pair of Genius. I prefer the Dominators because I can walk in them. You can walk up a steep hill, and you don't risk life and limb just walking across a Starbucks to get a little more cream. I would go to a few bike shops looking for shoes that fit. You can drop some serious coin shipping several pairs of shoes across the country, and then back again when they don't fit. And trust me, most won't. They should fit like a 2nd skin.

Hi,
when you try them on, you will see what I mean. Road shoes offer slightly less weight and slightly better aerodynamics....at the cost of walking like a drunk duck. I got both in a dead-of-winter sale. The Doms are a half size larger and I can wear warm socks. The Genius fit like a 2nd skin, and I can only wear paper thin socks with them. So I do use the Genius, but not as much.
I am hoping to use them more when I get in better shape.

I wanted Sidi Genius or Dominators,b ut cost was an issue...so I got a lightly used pair of Titans (Sidi road shoe) in my size off Ebay. They don't have the ratchet buckle, but the fit is great!

I use Lake mtn bike shoes and love them!

I'm a Randonneur so I do some very long distances and I wore my Lakes on the Paris-Brest-Paris last summer as well as on a tour of Wales after and I was very happy with them. I've bought a second pair in a larger size for winter riding and have been using them all winter, including 3 centuries this year so far. When it warms up though, I'll go back to my smaller Lakes.

I have the Genuius 4 Sidi's - I used to wear a semi mountain bike shoe and I thought that was a good shoe. There is no comparison. The sidi's fit like a glove and have really improved the efficiency of riding. Yes, they are hard to walk in. However, I wish American shoemakers would make regular shoes that fit like these. Try a lot of shoes on. Get shoes for the type of riding you intend to do. All my riding these days is road.

I'm really looking forward to trying a pair of Pearl Izumi's new women's shoes. I'm a PI 'ho, I admit it. Love their stuff.
