Trek 1000 SL vs. Trek 1.2
First time poster, long time lurker.
I am new to modern road bikes, not having ridden one since high school. I bought a Specialized Sirrus a while back and now I have the bug to get a road bike.
I have an opportunity to buy a couple of entry level Trek bikes: a 58cm (I am 6'1" 206 lbs.) 2007 1000 SL (in the lovely flare duotone) for $400 or a 58cm 2008 1.2 for $600. I have ridden them and I like both of them. They are both in great mechanical shape, with less than 1000 miles on each, supposedly. Not too fond of the thumb shifters, but apart from that, I like them.
In other words, I have no clue as to which one to buy.
They are both entry level and I know I will get what I pay for (the 1000 is a bit better, with Sora and Tiagra as opposed to 2203 and Sora on the 1.2) But I am not sure which one to buy.
What do you folks think? Any advice is appreciated.

They're similar enough (both 8-speed, etc.) that I'd say simply buy the less expensive one. If you get the bug to upgrade components, you'll end up doing it to either one.

You Know!? For Kids!
Spend the $400 on the 1000 and use the $200 for a set of Open Pros.
