Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Frame saver,should I use it?

Stumbled into a beautiful 2001 Mondonico
frame and fork recently. Took it in to LBS to
get some info. Was told it would be a good idea
to have them spray FRAME SAVER in the tubes.
Basically a rust proofer.
Is this good or bad to do to a handmade Italian
artisan frame? Columbus tubing.

Is it steel? Then yes. Use the framesaver or your prefered rust inhibitor. Mine is Boeshield T9.

Only if you don't want your bike rusting from the inside out.

FrameSaver can save you a lot of grief down the line. It should be applied before the bike is built up so you can get it in all the holes, nooks and crannies inside the frame. It would also be a good time to drill a weep hole in the bottom bracket if one is not already there.

+1

I gave my Sarthe a good spraying inside with Boeshield when it was new. You will still have 90% of the can left over and it makes one of the best lubes in existence. Plus, it can't be beat when it comes to cleaning a cassette.
