Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it a Sin?

I picked up an old Colnago Master Frame and I have a spare mixed Ultegra group laying around.

Is it a sin to put Shimano on a semi-vintage Italian bike?

I guess I could get it on the road real cheap, but I don't want to get lynched either.

I wasn't aware people were being lynched for this kind of thing. Seriously though, a bike that you can ride is better than just leaving the frame there to collect dust or thin your wallet getting the "right" components if you don't want to do that. Ultegra's a great gruppo to throw on so do it until you come across some Campys for cheap if you're so inclined.

Cross cultural lines, intermarriage, Japanese girl meets Italian boy.

My plan is to pick up an old Schwinn Varsity and put all Campy on it with some Zipp aero wheels. Oh, plastic handle bar tape also, and a kickstand, seeing as the stand holder is probably welded to the frame already.

I think it's a sin to have a bike lying around with your butt firmly planted in a chair asking "is it a sin to.." on an internet forum.

Hi,

Bad idea! I think it could cause the frame to inexplicably fail at the lugs.

A nice new Centaur group would look good on the bike. I just know it.
