going on a fast(35km/h) century, need advice

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

going on a fast(35km/h) century, need advice

I will be going on a fast century group ride.. I have been training for weeks for the ride.

Yesterday, I and a couple of friends rode an long(about 3hrs) but slow ride (25km/h).
Overall, it was a nice ride..

Some of my regular riding buddies didn't go with us, because they were reserving their strength for our century ride this wednesday..

Is this true? do you need to be off your bike for a couple of days before a long fast ride? What are the benifits (assuming it has)?

And another thing, I would like to test ride(40km rides) my new bike more, to really get used to its handling today, and maybe tommorrow. Do you think this is a good idea? How it affect my performance on wednesday (its sunday today)?

Your fine riding today.. You need at least a solid 48 hours for full recovery and to maybe save a little extra for your fast ride..

Well, you do not have to be off of the bike for several days to do a fast century. What you want to avoid is beating yourself up on the bike for a couple days. Easy or recovery rides before a fast century are fine.

Will UCI be testing afterward?

Weeks? Personally, I can't accomplish much in the way of training in weeks. Still, ya gotta do what you can...

Riding is okay. I taper off particularly on distance work in preparation for a century, and continue to do a reduced number of short, hard intervals and jumps. Still, if it was a slow ride, there's probably no damage. I find that it takes me longer to recover from endurance work, and I hate going into a century with sore and/or tired legs. Think of it this way... how do you want to prepare for the century... recovering, or getting stronger? You'll probably get a better work-out, more benefit, and have a lot more fun it you're running on a full tank.

Well, a few weeks = 8 weeks.. I was preparing since Febuary for this century ride.

(I could only dream)

Speaking of UCI, some of my cycling buddies have a UCI number/code.... I don't want to ask them how they got it, they might mistake my motives .. But how do you get one of those???
