In your off-season ...
Two questions:
1. How much mileage/kilometerage/time do you spend riding your bicycle outside in your off-season?
2. What other sports/activities do you do to keep fit during your off-season?

1) A ton. 25mm tires, fenders, and Assos winter gear really help.
2) Lots of sex.

1) None...Too much snow in Canada to ride and have fun
2) X country skiing...keeps the legs in shape for the next season and gives you the right to drink beer without guilt.

I live in New Mexico. What's an off season? We don't have many events in December (Christmas I guess). They start up again in Janruary. Last week was the Tour de Tucson 109 miles it was 80 degrees.I only rode 63 miles today because it was cold (only 62 degrees) but I usually only ride 70 when it's warm.

1. Enough to get me to work and back during the week. I'll do training outside when the roads are clear.
2. Counter-Strike.

1. Unless its under 20F and windy, or cold and rainy (like today) I'm outside. Mileage and time varies.
2. I like rock climbing, but I don't get to do it very often. Oh well.

Fixed.
I ride throughout the winter, right down to about -5 degrees (something in the high twenties in that archaic system known as Fahrenheit that the Americans still use?). We don't get too many days that are much colder than that during the daytime. The roads are usually dry enough here, except for the odd three or four-day period after a snowstorm.
I don't like any other exercise or sports, really.

1. I spin with a group 1 night/week (too boring to do alone) and ride 1 day on the weekend. If the weather's really bad I'll take my single speed on the group ride - hellova workout, especially in the hills.
2. I swim, trail run and snowboard in the off-season. If I had more time I'd try out cyclocross. That really picks up around here this time of year.

If its above 30 degrees I'll usually ride, but not as far as during the season and its usually alone. Weekly off season varies because of weather and darkness, so approx. about 30 - 50 miles per week is all I get in.
I do cross-training treadmill year around just about every day. I am attempting to take up yoga which is harder than I thought/ Yoga that is. Maybe I'll try spin.

230-350 miles weekly between March and October. 150-250 miles weekly between November and February. I think you can train more effectively indoors in winter, but that's only if you can mentally handle it. I enjoy riding outdoors, and I've even started to enjoy dealing with the elements, which I've mostly gotten a handle on. Some days you can't ride, like today, when there's frozen precip and the roads are too dicey. This year I'm hitting the gym 2-3 days weekly, and somewhat harder than in previous years, I think it will help.
By January I will even be sporting a sixpack, and the Ladies of BF will swoon even more than they do now. Today was my 5th workout, and for the first time the core work wasn't killing me, so it's coming around.

Currently I'll be riding whenever weather and daylight permit. I'll also do maybe 2-3 solid trainer sessions per week assuming darkness or bad weather.
I'll be mixing that up with some cross training...to include mostly running. I like to get on my wife's elliptical machine every now and then. I really enjoy running as an alternative to riding. I can better tolerate running in the cold versus cycling.
I hope to phase out everything except the bike by early February and start getting ready for the races. It looks like I will really depend on my trainer sessions thru December and January. I live in coastal NC...so the cold doesn't get too severe down here. Often times in Feb and March the wind is more of a factor. It can get pretty windy around here on occasion. That will beat ya up pretty good over a 40 mile ride...especially when you are out solo.

Do those of you who live in warm climates ride the same amount all year round? Do you not ease up a bit for a month or two at some point in the year?
I would find it exhausting to ride my summer quantities 12 months out of the year.

1. When the weather/family/work allows. The gods do not allow this to align very often. But I do get out every once and a while....
2. Lots of trainer work. I do not understand everyone's aversion to the trainer. Get on and ride. TV/music/Spinerals. Have a set 3 - 4 month plan and follow through. Plus some light work outs. Squats, lunges, push ups, bent over rows, straight leg dead lifts, planks...

Northern California has more of a season than other places (like Southern California) but it is still year-round riding - heck it was 70 today :-). However i really like fall/winter and do change things up. I drop the riding in both intensity and hours - to around 18-20 hours a month (25-35 being "normal" for me in spring/summer). I up my yoga and climbing (plus some skiing). I look forward to this time of year to deepen my yoga practice and get stronger for climbing.

1.) I usually don't ride much, but this season I've got a lot of drive and I don't have a job so I'm riding outside everyday and if I can't do that then I ride the trainer. I'd estimate I'm on my way to 800-900 miles for November.
2.) Nothing really. I do situps at night and I try to eat right.
My daily schedule is pretty much:
wake up at 10 am
shower and eat
do random household chores and stuff for 2 hours
get dressed to ride
get back at 5:30
prepare a light post-training meal
either BF it up or hangout
eat dinner
nothing
go to bed when I get hungry again

Bad winters around here, but I ride in temps down to 20 degrees (fahrenheit). Maybe average 75-100 miles per week in Dec, Jan, Feb, but ride more if the weather cooperates.
To make up for less riding, I run a bit and lift weights a lot -- mostly core and leg work, which has really boosted my max sprint speed over the past couple years.
During good weather, I ride 150-300 miles per week.
