Any Carbon Bike Deals (< $1500?)
I test rode a Schwinn Peloton and Fuji CCR2 and the two are less than $1500. I like how the carbon frame absorbs the shock when riding.
Any other bikes I should test ride in this price range or am I just about out in this price range? Or has anyone seen any other close-out deals on 2008s?

I got a 08 Peloton @ Performance; however, I got a screaming deal at about $950 after the discounts and price adjustments, etc. I really like the bike a lot. Better fit and smoother ride. If you google "Schwinn Peloton" there's some online shop selling new Peloton 07 for about $1K. He's had it for sale for a while.

not just the sub-$2K are made there. some of the colnago lineup is made there, so are cervelos, and the bianchi 928 is from taiwan too. what is the point?
i take a taiwanese made bike any day over one that my fellow brooklynites would crazy-glue together locally :-).

Not to hijack this thread, but what about carbon framsets for ~1.5K? I am doing a build for a cousin. Right now, I am just looking at ebay - but it would be great if I could buy something new with a warranty for that price.

Hurry
I bought my Mongoose Bosberg with Sram Rival from Performance last year. It had a retail price of $2700 but I got it on sale and with coupons for $1600. In its original form it was 15.8lbs but with upgrades, pedals, cages and computer it is in upper 15s.
Nashbar has the cheaper version of the Bosberg called Koppenberg with Shimano 105 mix. This is the EXACT frame as my Bosberg and are made by Kinesis. These frames are actually rebadged Kinesis KR-810s that are ridden by the professional Kinesis team in europe. The Koppenberg is heavier because of the components, but it is a ridiculous price.
Nashbar has the Koppenberg on sale from $2k to $999. Use the 20% off coupon that expires today and you get it for $799. This is a frame worth upgrading. Trust me, I have been riding for over 20 years and have owned $3k+ framesets alone. I like the Bosberg paint better that the Koppenberg, but the finish on my Mongoose Bosberg is perfect. There are no decals, everything is under the clearcoat.

Im actually considering the CR1 for myself. I will be test riding an 09 Madone 5.2 this weekend curious to see how it stacks up against that bike which is like 2g's more. Ill let you guys know how it goes but to original poster I would seriously consider spending the extra 100 bucks. And if you get more serious or have more money whatever the circumstances you can upgrade the components. The Scott CR1 for 1600 is the same frame supposedly raced on in the tour.

I'm aware you can get 10% back if you sign up for the Performance membership ($25), so in a way, Peloton = $1147. You're still $200 less that my price if I were to buy today.

I'm very interested in the Koppenberg at Nashbar! How do I get a 20% off coupon? Do you have any good photos of the Koppenberg as I cannot find any on the web. Also, do Mongoose frames come with a lifetime warranty?

Here is a larger picture of what Nashbar has but as you can see the frame is the same as the Kinesis and my Bosberg. The Koppenberg has a carbon fork with aluminum steerer tube as opposed to my carbon steerer tube on my Bosberg which is a little lighter.
Nashbar had a coupon good until yesterday for 20% off. Not sure if you can find another one online. I upgraded my seatpost, stem, handlebars, saddle and wheels on my Bosberg. The Kinesis guys have been riding this same frame for the last 3 years in Europe as proof of its worthiness. But to get a Pro-raced frame as complete bike with Shimano 105 for $799 or even $999 is ridiculous.
BTW, the KORE saddle is one of the most comfortable I ever ridden and it is on my Scott now. And when I spoke to Mongoose about the Bosberg, they told me it had a 5 year warranty and the guys who worked there were riding/racing the Mongoose Bosberg with Dura Ace FWIW.

Exile frame - 750
Fulcrum Racing 5's - 225
Controltech cockpit - 100
Full Ultegra groupset - 500
Specialized Alias saddle - 25
Note: these are all prices I've seen. New frame, wheels, and groupset. Cockpit and saddle would have to be new bike takeoffs. You could go cheaper by going 105/Ult instead than full Ultegra. If you buy the components individually or used, the groupset would be cheaper still.
If I were to do a 105/Ult mix, I'd do Ultegra crank, shifter, and rear derailleur + 105 chain, cassette, and brakes.

seems like a good deal, but it comes in small, medium and large. Did you find actual dimensions somewhere?

How did you get the 08 Peloton down to $950? It's currently $1499, using a 15% off coupon = $1274.
I'm aware you can get 10% back if you sign up for the Performance membership ($25), so in a way, Peloton = $1147. You're still $200 less that my price if I were to buy today.
