Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Two quick bar tape questions...

1) Is one pack of the stuff enough for one set of bars, or do I need two packs to do one set of bars?
2) What effect would shellac have on a color such as this?

One back is designed to do one set of bars. Why would you want to put shellac over the tape? I assume it would darken the color but I'd worry about it maybe making the tape slick.

Shellac does darken the color, but everyone says it'll help it last a lifetime. I'm into it. I just don't know how it'd look on a maroon color like that. Anyone have any experience?

I didn't know people used shellac on cork tape, I thought it was more for cloth tape.

Why don't you try it and see for yourself? That way you'll know for sure and you'll know for sure if you like the feel or not.

It's only handlebar tape. If you try it and decide that you don't like it, it's inexpensive to replace.

Yep, that Performance stuff is 4 or 5 bucks. Shellack will harden the tape and it won't feel right. It'll be like some weird kind of candy with a hard shell and a marshmallow middle.
