would you buy Dura Ace if...
...you don't race but ride club rides and when you were buying a new group for a new bike you could get an 8 piece DA 7800 group for $839 delivered and an 8 piece Ultegra SL group for $690? Is there $149 worth of bling there? Both groups are NIB. So..... would ya rather********** At these blow out prices is DA still "No race no Dura Ace"?
To be honest I've already made my decision and I honestly don't care what ne of you here really think since we will more than likely never meet and if we did I wouldn't get all swooning and weak in the knees. I'm just curious. ...and bored on a Friday evening when I would normally be running on the tread mill or riding the trainer except that my back is out today so I'm just trolling around on BF. |
I seldom race but ride a lot... and got a similar deal on DA because I thought it was worth it to get great stuff. If your mind is already made up, then don't even worry about what the folks here say.
|
yes, but your math stinks.
|
For $49, I'd go DA. Or is this new math?
|
lmfao, I guess the drugs are working. Fixed it. The Ultegra price is $690 after 20% Live.net cash back and the DA is $839. Damn my back hurts!

dura ace shifts faster.

For the difference in price I would go D/A. The brakes do feel a bit nicer as do the STI shifters. There is also a little weight savings......either way, DA or SL you will not disappointed.

I've never been able to tell much difference, if at all, between DA and Ultegra. It's purely for bling if I am going to be intellectually honest with myself.
|
If you like DA then I say go for it. I don't race and I don't even ride with a club or anything and I have one bike with Red and one with Record. Not a big Shimano fan personally, but if I was I'd probably ride DA (though Ultegra SL is a pretty solid group too). For only $150 extra I would certainly go DA though.
|
It doesn't matter. Please, just do what you want (and I know that you want DA).
|
Da.

$149 difference. No brainer, Dura Ace.

I think that the question should be: would you buy an Ultegra group for $600 or a DA for $839. For $149, there's no question, get the DA over the SL. For ~$250, it's a more interesting question. Personally, I'm cheap and got the Ultegra.

Oh, that's an easy question ... Ultegra, of course!

Who's surprised? I'm relieved that someone finally said it. I thought everyone had gone soft. This is the Road Cycling forum isn't it? FWIW, the Big Brown Truck came to see me today. The DA is in my grubby little fingers and now I'm anxiously awaiting my new frame.

I'll buy Dura-Ace when there is nothing else better available.
|
If the price spread were bigger I'd say ultegra.
But in this case go d.a. |
If you are spending close to 900$ for the DA get the SRAM Rival group instead. It is a hair lighter than the DA 7800 and is really a great component spec. If you are into saving a buck, then the SL Ultegra is great stuff as well. Either way you really can't go wrong.
