Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My ENTIRE theater was under $8,000.........Which I realize is a lot of dough but nearly as much as many people think it would cost especially when you consider that included finishing that part of the basement which had to be done anyways.

busted again. the PIXAR stuff is always something i like to play when showing off my system to friends. i did watch the opening scene of the DARK NIGHT on BluRay last night and it is pretty impressive. it may be my new demo material.

very true. the price point for getting into front projection technology has plumitted the past two years. plus, this was something i have wanted to do with my basement since we purchased the house 6 years ago. the basement was unifished and the space screamed movie theater. later.

Bump for new pics....

I added the E-motion rollers and my indoor training time doubled

It turns out I DID have a use for the Nordic Track, as a thing to grab hold of while on the rollers! (and it holds the bike up too).

Next improvement will be to connect a projector to the laptop and hang a screen in front of that window.

Eventually I might even clean up the place...errr............naaah.

My current "dungeon" is the local community centre gym ... on one of the spin bikes overlooking the gymnasium where they play basketball, floor hockey, etc.

It's not so bad ... but I'm looking forward to a day when we can have a room of our own with a spin bike, rowing machine, and treadmill.

nice. you get to listen to Silence of the Lambs books on tape -- "it puts the lotion in the basket"-- and watch plants melt bug prey in liquid acid... gouilish. a true chamber.

that whole Silence of the Lambs pitch black chamber thing pretty much sums up the trainer experience.

I am posting it here because I am looking forward for warmer days. I have a fan and TV in front of me. Watching the recordings of biathlon, ski races, or Le Tour. Once I watched football, but races are more exiting while I am in the saddle. I tided up a mess behind me to have a cleaner picture. In real life it is not pretty. I also have a treadmill, but other member of my family using it. If I have to run, I do it outside.

I hope you (wherever you are) do not need a trainer at this time.

3 grand is enough to buy an (N+1)st bike.

Yeah but a LOT of bikes cost WAYYY more than 3 grand. If anyone is concerned that showing pics of a home theater room = showing off wealth, then they don't really need to be on BF, especially the Road forum.

I have maybe $2K in my media room. It's nothing special, just the 3rd 10x10 bedroom, with a screen painted on the wall, dark wall colors, nice amp and 5.1 speaker setup I got for a STEAL back in 2006, and a Panasonic AR-100U 1080p LCD projector that we just got 1 year ago for a great price of $1K. I'll be taking the screen size from the current 72" (size limited by previous 480p DLP projector) up to the maximum size of about 100" that this AR-100U can do with less than 9 feet of throw distance - and also soundproofing the screen wall at that same time (wall between theater and son's bedroom).

Unfortunately the room is only big enough for a couch and that's about it. And I don't even have a trainer, yet anyway. I like to ride outside.

I would never ever underestimate the power of a bike trainer again. I was reluctant to buy one until I realized/discovered my cold weather threshold. I owe my winter fitness from the trainer. It's boring alright but when you have a decent training video + shows/races with it = time will fly.

I've never been on it for more than an hour though (I mostly do intervals on it to be productive). One thing I need to improve on when the weather gets warm is my endurance for sure.

I keep my bike and extra gear at the office since my schedule can be strange but sometimes gives me the opportunity to jump outside and ride for a couple hours in the middle of the day. If too cold to ride outside or too nasty (I do work at a ski resort after all), I set up either the trainer or rollers in my outer office, prop the door open and watch people skiing down the hill! Last season I binge watched Sons of Anarchy or other pablum, sometimes a cycling vid, and use TrainerRoad on top of all that.
