Picked up a Bianchi 928 T-Cube frameset (Barloworld's bike last season). In celeste, of course.

2009 SRAM Red?

2008 Campagnolo Record?

I won't go 11 speed. For one, I just can't justify spending the cash. For two, it wouldn't be compatible with my other wheelsets.
My head says Red but my heart says Record. What do you weenies say?

Why don't you do a group buy on rolling papers, you all appear to need more.

Red is noisier than other groups but if it's set up properly, it's as good as anything out there, no question. I only picked Record over Red by a scosche.
NOTE - slight highjack here. Thanks to botto for recommending the DA cranks over the FSA. I'm quite impressed (it's been a long time since I've ridden a full DA group). The DA bottom bracket is so smooth; from personal feel, it's as nice as the ceramic Red GXP BB and my Campy UT, FWIW. Plus it only cost me $27.

The red FD sucks....get a force FD and most of the problems with shifting are gone...
and if you are cross chaining enough to need FD trim on the small ring you should be in the big ring anyhow.

If you want to stick with 10 speed, the '08 Record parts are fine, but I would consider the 2009 Centaur shifters an upgrade over 2008 Record. Internally, all of the 2009 Centaur components in the shifter are identical to 2009 Record, except for the 10 speed indexing disc (instead of 11). The new shifters are more comfortable, easier to operate, easier to repair and allegedly more durable with no g-springs to wear out. They are also incredibly cheap to buy.
11 speed requires no change to hubs or wheels, if you have Campy compatible hubs. If you're using some sort of conversion cassette with Shimano splined hubs, that's different.
I've got both the 2009 Centaur 10 speed shifters on a 10 speed bike and two bikes setup with 11 speed. I've sold off all of my older model ergo levers and switched to the new ultrashift. Only time will tell whether longevity of the shifter is improved, but it is certainly much easier to disassemble and reassemble.

Also, here's how I see the breakdown between the 2 groups:
Nicer Rear shifting: Red
Nicer Front shifting: Record
Better Brakes: Red
Better Crank: Record
Weight: Red
Noise (Quietness): Record
Ergonomics: Toss up, but I'd give the nod to Red 55 to 45

never had issues with the trim or fd with my rival.
caloso didn't ask about DA, which is what I'd spend my money on.

Right now, it'd be especially hard to argue with that. I just picked up a DA 7800 crank for $217, in fact (and a front derailleur for $49).

I have a DA bike and I love everything about it except for the way the levers feel in my hands.

Red.
In terms of quiet/loud - just as "loud" or "quiet" as Record.

I also agree with this. I've been riding Campy and SRAM for the past 3+ years and when I took my new DA-equipped bike out on Saturday for 3 hrs., my hands were killing me when I got back. I'm sure I'll get used to it though, especially for the money DA saved me, haha!

When I bought shifters to replace my damaged Record 11, I bought Chorus 11 for $205. Only one of the brake levers is scuffed up, so I may repair it and trade out the brake levers, but maybe not.

Chorus definitely seems like the "sweet spot" for 11 speed. So I have another question that probably belongs in the "things I don't know" thread. What's the deal with that faux carbon sticker on Record 10 (and apparently, SR) finger levers? Is the lever really carbon; because it feels like the plastic Chorus lever to me.

That's really dumb, IMHO.
So what's the big difference between Chorus 10 and Record 10? Maybe this will help the OP decide.
EDIT: But then again, I don't think there is a lot of difference between Force and Red either... Zero Loss still exclusive to Red?
