Does anyone route their SRAM shifter cables in the open?
I've got SRAM '09 Rival and the shifters have holes so that you can route your cables "concealed" (Campy-style) or "open" (Shimano-style). Does anyone have their SRAM shifter cables routed in the open? How well does it work? If you've experienced both routings, how big a difference does it make in shifting performance on the front?

I just had a SRAM clinic at work, and I'm pretty sure that you can only run the shifter cables under the tape.

SRAM does support two ways of routing the cables, but neither of them in out in the open. You can route them next to the brake cable or on the other side of the bar from the brake cable, but they're both under the bar wrap.

Having just reviewed all of SRAM's online tech stuff, it appears you may be right. They never mention an alternative routing. I wonder what the holes are for. They are in roughly the same position as Shimano's cable holes.

The two positions are basically in front of the bar or behind/under it. Both are parallel to the bar, not perpendicular like Shimano. The holes you are probably thinking of are the holes that you feed the cable in through...
