Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A Goon in a bra, apparently.

If you want them - go right ahead.......

Ohhh...those are "pistons" -- now I get it. I thought they were like markings on a crash test dummy! Tattoos are art -- express yourself as you wish. Just remember that a "youthful indiscretion" will be with you permanently as you age, hopefull well (or not)...

Tattoos aren't my thing but most of my friends are into them.
Get 'em if you like 'em!

You might be better off spending some long hours in the saddle and getting some muscle definition on those legs. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still going to be a pig.

Half you guys sound like my dad. "Tattoos are self mutilation. I dont see the point." I hear this everysingle time I bring up getting ink'ed. There is nothing weird about tattoos or piercings, just simply forms of self expression just like a ****'n haircut. I've learned that either you understand it or you dont, there is no grey area. I personally believe that if you get inked, it should be with something significant; a date, a photo, etc. I'll admit I laugh when I see someone with a clown tat on their calf, but to each their own.

Its kinda like robot chicken, either you get it or you dont.

when i think of the type of people who get stupid tattoos, this is exactly what i imagine (including the same attention to logic, grammar, and spelling).

I also want to be able to absolve myself from the responsibility of influencing said people's attention to logic, grammar, and spelling by completely avoiding teaching college English Composition.

Why does everyone always bring up grammer and spelling errors on online forums? Im sorry this doesn't look as pretty as my senior thesis, but we are talking about tattoos not pediatric obeisty.

Anyways I remember talking to a few guys last fall down at school who I use to ride with who had tattoos. They said that their only regret was getting tattooed in a vulnerable area (ie forarm, shoulders, thigh) which I totally agree with

I only bring it up because I notice it right away. I was an editor at Omaha Magazine for 9 months and my degrees are in Journalism and English. No big deal; you aren't being graded. There will not be a pop quiz. Practicing good grammar and spelling in all facets of life makes you more proficient overall however. Plus, if you're spelling, punctuation and grammar are terrible, you sound like an idiot and your points are taken less seriously, imho.

You know, as taboo as tattoos may be, what if your child showed up at home with this?

I know someone has seen this before as it is pretty old

I do understand that you've decided against the idea, but my suggestion:
put the pistons on top of your thigh, just above the knee. The only time they'll show is when you're wearing bike shorts (unless you wear short shorts in general life). The piston heads can be wider, and the connecting rod can disappear up into the bike shorts. It'll give you something to ponder while you're suffering, and nobody will be able to point and laugh from behind.

Also, yea don't let morons (myself included) on the internet decide what your body is going to look like. Make sure it's something you will want forever.

My take on the permanence discussion: Of course I may not be riding bikes forever, or I may not be in the state of mind I am in now forever. But who we are is a result of who we were. Biking is a huge part of my life, and something that makes me who I am. Even if I'm not riding at 80, whoever I am will be the guy that dedicated a large part of his life to biking, and I don't think I'll mind remembering how important biking was.

Or any other tattoo idea for that matter.

To the topic of tattoos. While letting people decide what your body is going to look like is a terrible idea; I would like to throw my suggestion into the ring. Get a big ol' naked lady on a bike, holding a beer.

Good Idea on the Pistons, but bad execution.

It'd kinda be like getting Guns tattoo'd on your forearms and Pythons on your Biceps.

The only Cycling Tat I would get would maybe be a Campy 11-tooth cog piece. I don't ride Campy anymore though.

Just be carefull. I have script down my right forearm that reads 'All of this World' in red ink. Took a sharp left hand digger on some wet pavement one a pair of prototype race tires I was testing for Specialized. The 'A' has some pretzeling now.
