Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow... Love the logo work. Congratulations on your new bike!

And, honestly - I'll only be satisfied if there is a picture of that bicycle in Holland with a very cliché Dutch background (windmills, tulips, clogs, stoned tourists entering the red light district with the locals looking on in a manner of apathetic disappointment, Botto pointing to some other cyclist at the incorrectness of their position) and printed like a postcard. Until then, great bike.

Thanks! I took it out for a spin yesterday. It was my first time using a compact crank. Going up hill was easy. Going down hill was easy. But on the flats I was searching for the right gearing. But I know I'll get used to it quickly.

This is the biggest drawback to a compact crank and the best reason for a triple. On a triple, it's more likely you can just stick in the middle ring and shift the rear on long flats while on the compact there's lots of shifting both the front and the rear.

Beautiful. You'll get used to the compact -- it took me a few weeks to get find my new preferred combos.

Thanks. I think the crank is actually called R700. Just above Shimano's Ultegra. I had to dig around pretty hard to find it. It seems like most shops sell the ultegra compact crank as Shimano's top of the line. I'm calling it Dura Ace, but maybe it's not.

The Ultegra and Ultegra SL are ABOVE the R700 in Shimano's line. The R700 was the first compact that they produced so some mistakenly thought it was on par with the Dura Ace line.

Now that you mention it, I believe you are correct. But when choosing parts for the bike, I did NOT want the ultegra compact crank. I didn't like the look of it, especially because of the big "ultegra" stamp on the side of the crank arm. I think the r700 has a much cleaner look, especially for a dura ace equipped bike.
FYI, it looks like the difference is r700 = 850 g, ultegra compact = 745 g. I think that's less than an ounce. Of course as soon as they produce a dura ace compact crank I'll be forced to upgrade.

very nice, everything put together perfectly and has a cclleeaann look.

this is going to sound dumb, but i noticed your brake/shift cable housings are grey. how would one go about finding grey/white/other colored housings? I want something different than just conventional black...

anyways, nice bike, enjoy it!

Dura-Ace cable housing is grey/silver.

You can find colored housing here: https://www.loosescrews.com

Thanks Dave! Weather permitting, I'll be at the SDBC Dev3 ride this weekend with my son. I'm trying to get him into D1 or D2, but he's not quite there yet. I hope to see you there!
