I was just looking at the old nashbar catalog...and they have a brooks saddle listed for $399. And performance is listing a Wippermann hollow ti chain for $399. I know these are pretty cool items, but 400 bucks!?! I know that there has been an explosion of wheels that cost big bucks and campy carbon cranks are a pretty penny, but it seems like just about every item on the bike is going to get a $399 price tag...forks, handlbars...excuse me, how much is that carbon fiber waterbottle cage?

If I had $400 laying around, I'd get the Deda Synapsi bars. Very cool. But, I don't so I can't.

OK....take that saddle, for example... Now, I wouldn't spend $400 for a Brooks saddle. What I have done was to take a $60 Brooks saddle and modified it to almost look like the one for $400. Many people familiar with Brooks saddles think I'm riding on the real thing.....hehehe... ;)

The $400 Brooks saddle will last forever (as would a $50 one), but $400 for a chain!! When I first saw it I thought it had to be a misprint. It takes either an incredibly vain, or rich (or both) rider to waster $400 on a chain that might last 2,000 miles.

I've spent $200 on a saddle, and my booty is happy because of it. If I had an extra $400.00, I'd make my husband take a week of vacation and go ride.
