Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Last ride of 2008

Had a great ride this morning. It was a huge group, 75+, and on the way out, we were flying. 40 mph+ for while when the fast guys were showing off. But thankfully the fast part was short, then everyone just sat up and did a small chainring cruise, had coffee at La Carreta and cruised back.

How was your last ride of the year?

Me too.
Bike went into the shop. We were out on a long ride, hit a monster climb up to a radio tower and my rear der. F'd up bad. No one could fix it on the ride. We tried to lock it out too. Eventually it worked enough to get home.

Haven't left yet. About to head out the door in a few. About 45*F, 20-30 mph winds, gusting over 40 mph. Doing about 45 miles. The wind should be interesting.

35 miles this morning just before the snow started coming down, but the winds were whipping up a bit making my spokes whistle when I got hit with a crosswind. Oh, and there was one gust that hit me head on that felt like I was riding through molasses but the worst part was the wave of dirt that it sent at my face.

My last ride of the year was last Sunday, when I braved 30 mph headwinds and froze my ungloved hands on my regular 22-mile run. Now there's a foot of snow on the ground and I'm waxing up my skis.

The weather has been messed up around here, as usual. Over the Christmas holiday I biked twice and XC skied twice. Nice workout in both cases, but I'd prefer a little more consistency this time of the year.

Last ride is starting in a few minutes, looks like its going to be about 130 miles and 11ty million feet vertical.
Note to self: when umd says "lets go on an epic ride", remember that his definition of epic is a world apart from yours.

It warmed up to -12 C this morning so I got in an hour of hill repeats on the "ice bike" before my wife left for work.
I'm working from home today to watch the kids so this will be my last ride of the year.

Ice bike in my driveway

Just returned. 2 hours, 30 miles, very windy. I was cruising at 28 mph on the flats on the way out, about a 10 mph advantage on normal cruising speed for me. It was fun, and then I turned around.

Blood tests show I have mono, so I guess my last ride of 2008 was...last Monday. Hoping for my first ride of 2009 to be next Monday, though!

snow, 10 degrees F and 40 mph gusts. I have no idea what the wind chill is but sitting on the tractor plowing the driveway was enough outside time for me. I rode the rollers and trainer.

I just bought my first road bike yesterday (CAAD9-7), and i haven't ridden a bike in 6+ years. I suppose that my last ride of 2008 was also my first. I did about 10 miles today with no water bottle or bike shorts yet and i had to take like 3 short breaks, haha. The weather was great, about 72 and breezy in central Florida.

my butt hurts

Fun

My last ride of 08 was on skate skis. 12 degrees and windy.

Pity they don't sell skis in CT.

Gonna be 30 (F) tomorrow with a 9mph wind and no snow. 2009 will be getting off to a good start.

2 hours on the trainer.
My last ride outside was sometime in November, excluding commuting.
