Shifter is Ultra-Shift– you can downshift 3 cogs with one throw, and upshift up to 5.
Right finger shifting is also a lighter touch. Also something about different build tech- wont wear as much– bearings vs bushings?. Haven't used 'em but will be ordering the 2009 shifters from UK soon. Others here will report more than I know about the changes in the rest of the group. |
Here's a very informative thread by DaveSSS:

biggest difference is the shifter. very different shape.

The FD never had any carbon on it. Only Record and SR have a carbon FD cage. The RD can be had either way.

So the '08 parts are blingier but the shifter on the '09 is clearly superior, huh? I'm going to have to pick up a set with this new design. I have '06 or '07 Chorus shifters but this design seems much better due to simplicity.

I have the 2009 Centaur Alloy levers on my steel Fuso and the 2009 Veloce (ultra shift, not escape) levers on my Jamis Eclipse. The Veloces are broken in now yet they still have a slightly heavier feel to the downshifts. According to the parts listing everything is the same other than the levers (black vs chrome) so I'm presuming the lighter feel of the Centaur is due to the heavier alloy piece compared to the plastic of the Veloce. I still have to unload the 2007 Chorus levers they replaced.
