Wide (e.g., 44cm) handlebars for quill or 7/8" or 25.4mm?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wide (e.g., 44cm) handlebars for quill or 7/8" or 25.4mm?

I've been searching all over, and I'm stuck. And I don't know the correct terminology, which always makes things unsearchable.

Here's what I have:
  • 1989 or so steel Trek. Tri Series.
  • Bar width: 38cm (center to center)
  • Clamp: 1" (25.4mm) diameter
  • Stem: 7/8" (22.225mm) in diameter
All I want is something wider, with an ergo/anatomical bend, but all the places I've looked online have only 31.8mm bars. I have some 31.8mm bars that I like, but they won't fit.

Man, if I could get this, I'd really enjoy riding that thing again.

And I hope this is in the right forum. And I searched... (I swear, this must be a common question...)

you can't use 26mm bars in a 25.4mm stem.

you need something like this.

the alternative solution would be to get a 26mm clamp, 1" quill stem with a 26mm clamp bar.

Those Nashbar bars are what I'm looking for. But yeah, they'd be too thick, wouldn't they?

The Nittos look pretty good, but I do like the anatomical bend.

Edit: Found this. These look like they should work.
