My sub $200 build
Well I just finished up building my winter bike / commuter.
Here are the specs:
Frame and carbon fork with cane creek headset were free from a friend...well, I do owe him a lunch. It looks like a generic aluminum frame, quite possibly a Nashbar frame but I can't find any markings and the fork looks generic as well with no markings.
Wheels are Xero XSR3 off of my Giant when I upgraded to Neuvations.
Seat is also off of my Giant when I replaced it.
$100 - FSA Gossamer compact crank, 105 front, rear derailleurs, shifters (9sp) and cassette, generic looking brakes. (bought from a different friend upgrading to SRAM Force)
$60 - Handlebar, stem and seatpost bought used off of ebay.
$30-40 - Odds and ends to get everything running.
I'm actually very pleased how it turned out and how it rides. My bathroom scale says it weighs 21lbs without pedals and bottle cages.
What do you think for a beater bike?
Alongside my Giant OCR Carbon with Ultegra and the new wheels.

Amen Second Mouse! I'm going out as soon as my daughters get home from school!
That sticker on the downtube says Ero. I asked the guy a got the frame from what it meant and he didn't know. It just seemed like a hassle to remove it.

That's my kinda bike, cheap, good looking, fit for purpose, built to your needs. I suppose you're quite a light weight rider judgingby how few spokes the wheels have.

based on looks alone, I'd ride that instead of your Giant.
In other words, nicely done

It would be funny as **** if the letters were EPO. I thought they were at first too.

Very nice. I take a certain pride in building up a great bike with as little cash outlay as possible (even though I can afford any bike out there).

I think I may do something with the EPO idea. Stay tuned.
