Need some help with Shimano shoe sizing
I'm looking at getting some Shimano winter shoes, and I don't have a place to try them on. I wear Sidi's in a 46-Mega. Do Shimano shoes run narrow? I have seen the Shimano sizing chart, and I'm thinking of bumping up to a 47 to compensate for width and to be able to wear some thicker socks. Thoughts? Thanks.

Problem is sorting out how much to increase shoe length to increase shoe width. Some know that D width in say a 45 is narrower than a D width in a 47. That said, Shimano generally run about 1/2 point smaller than a Sidi for the same size shoe. In other words if you ride a Sidi in a 46 then you would want a 45.5 in a Shimano. The width thing is the curve ball however. No question that a std width Shimano is narrower than a Sidi Mega so you may want to order the Shimano in a 46. Best suggestion is ALWAYS purchase cycling shoes on line with a return policy...what I always do. Find a local bike shop and try on their different shoes. I do not have a wide foot like you do but will never wear Sidis again as I feel that Shimino and Specialized...I have the new S-works Boa are better shoes...but again I have an average width foot and you need width.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.

I found Shimano shoes to be two sizes undersized. I normally wear a 46, and had to buy a 48. My feet are normal to narrow, and the fit was fine ---- for me. I'd have to say they do run a touch narrow.

Wow, that is complete opposite of most. Everyone I've talked to says Shimano has a wider toe box and runs pretty true to size. I found my Shimano R300's in 46 to be dead on. I tried the Mega 46 Sidi's and did not like them. They felt less roomy in the toe box than Shimano's. I have R300's in 46, R215's in 46W and M225's in 46W. I wear a 45.5 Diadora, 46 Carnac, 46 Nike, 47 Pearl Izumi and a US 12 running shoe.

Yep,
I own a both Shimano SH-TR30 and R131 shoes and they have the roomiest toe box and for most of the population would run true to size, mine are just a 1/2 size bigger only because my left foot is ever so slightly larger than my right.
I've also owner a pair of Nike Poggios and Adidas Vueltas, and both are just too narrow for long distance riding.

Shimanos are wider than regular Sidis but narrower than Sidi megas. For me atleast they run pretty much to size, I use 43 shoes and 43 Shimanos fitted me well.

I have been measured at about a 10.5 in length, but I pretty much wear an 11.5 in everything to compensate for width. I think if I buy these I will go with a 47 so I can wear some thick socks.
Thanks for all the info, appreciate the comments.

I just went from Sidi to Shimano because my feet were too wide for the Sidis. So, that means Shimano is noticeably wider than Sidi and they do run a little larger in length as well. I fit a Sidi 45 (except for the width) but a Shimano 44.

I find Shimano shoes to be wider than Sidi's as well. Shimano shoes USED to be sized pretty much the same as Sidi's but a couple of years ago when they changed the road shoe range from a sole that accepted SPD and SPD-SL cleats to accepting SPD-SL cleats only they changed the sizes to be slightly more realistic so now I wear a shoe 1 (EURO) size smaller than previously.

+1 on Shimano being wider than Sidi - my feet aren't particularly wide, but the toe box on Shimano is much more comfortable for me.
I wanted to get Sidi, but comfort beat's style.

Shimano - narrowish heel cup, boxy toe. I wear 11.5 US shoe and a 46 Shimano. I can't wear Sidis or Carnacs.
