Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Future of Shimano

I heard that Shimano's ultimate goal is to totally get rid of front shifting all together. Everyone will have a single 52 tooth ring on the front and a 14 speed 11- 34 in the rear. And they will make 14 speed work using a chain that has every other outer link missing, making it very flexible.

What about folks who run something other than a 52? Sounds interesting, many many years away if it were ever going to be on pro racing bikes...cabling might look odd, but, I could get used to this...although, you gotta admit you like the feeling of going into the big ring...with this system that feeling would be gone...you'd also need the ability to jump a few gears up too, say, for situations where you've just gone over the crest of a steep climb and are heading down a steep descent...

I heard that The Corporation was secretly dosing us with a mind controlling agent, found in minute traces in common household products.

how would that work? I mean, we have 11-Speed with Campy, but can Shimanp physically make a chainline durable enough that is thin enough to cater to an 11-34/14sp? Wheel manufacturers have already made the required industry standard changes to rear wheels with the vertical driveside spoke range...can we go any further?

Where/Who is your source?

If Shimano's ultimate goal is to get rid of front shifting, why the Hell did they spend so much time and money on Di2? A single ring up front and 14-cogs in the rear sounds like the kind of thing you could do pretty easily today. Especially if you were willing to accept a wider rear hub. If Campy can do 11 speeds with a "standard" freehub, it would seem to me that you could widen the rear hub to 145 or 150mm and easily fit 14 speeds...

I think rear road spacing will go to 135mm to fit more cogs at a reasonable width with a strong enough chain. How soon? No clue.

Col Jack D. Ripper. Arguably the best film character of the past 60 years. Thank you Stanley.

I preferred General Buck Turgidson. Much more believable and more importantly, much funnier.

Nobody was as funny in that flick as P. Sellers.

"I'm sorry too, Dmitri. I'm very sorry...All right! You're sorrier than I am! But I am sorry as well. I am as sorry as you are Dmitri..."

But G.C. Scott's performance also takes the cake. Hell, they all do. One of the top 10 films of the 20th Century. Maybe the funniest movie ever made.
