Trek 1.5 help please

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 1.5 help please

Hi guys,

If anyone here owns the Trek 1.5 or works in a shop with access to see a 1.5 could you see the stem size on a 52cm bike please?

I saw that there is a significant difference between whats on a 50 and a 52 and I need to know if they have shipped a wrong stem by mistake on my bike.

Thanks.

No matter what comes on the bike, if it doesn't feel right it's the wrong stem. Tires, stem, and saddles are normally the first to go on a bike.

Could you please post the stem size [its written on the near end of the stem which is facing the seat] as well as the bike size.

Would really appreciate it as if I have the wrong size I could ask Trek to replace it at no cost. Besides its near impossible to get parts like this in India and I would have to wait for a US trip to get one otherwise.

OP: I can almost guarantee you'll get a new stem in the same city you live in. Just look around

If you email Trek they can tell you what the stock stem size should be.. I know for a 58cm bike it's a 100mm stem.
As for a significant difference between stem sizes.. If anything it's most likely 10mm(1cm) if it's different at all. My best guess is that its a 90mm stem.

Thanks guys. Its a 90mm and I was thinking to try a 75mm. How do you think it will affect the handling?

Rushi - can you suggest where? I dont think BOTS will have spare stems - will check with Rohan but even he is looking for a smaller stem. I thought if I am happy with a 75 he could take mine which is 90. I certainly dont think Jayant Cycles will even know what a stem is - they seem clueless when it comes to bikes. One guy there actually told me that Trek road bikes come in only 1 size.

Rushi,

He might not be very conducive - I think he is a bit miffed that I got a Trek rather than a Merida. He was very nice to me but did not have a bike with a compact crank and thats the reason I gave up on Merida.

I am getting a 50cm Trek for wifey so I'll try that stem [I think thats a 75] and if its OK I guess I'll either get one from the US or ask Rohan to get me one thru Trek.

That hardly makes any sense.

The shop's not doing you any favors by selling you another stem.

FWIW, Venkatesh swapped a stem and a handlebar on my wife's road bike for free. We bought it from him, of course. That's the service you pay for when buying from LBS instead of the web.

Rushi,

FWIW I didn't buy on line - just the competing LBS . Anyway Venky has a new showroom opened - guess I'll make a visit. Need helmets too [dont be shocked - neither of the stores have had helmets in stock since Nov].

Which road bike did your wife buy?
