Nicks on Brake surface
I just got a warranteed wheelset from neuvation and the rear wheel has a few nicks on the brake surface.
I'm wondering if this is an issue. The 'small' nick is about 0.5mm deep and my nail gets caught on it as I run by. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...7/IMG_1378.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...7/IMG_1376.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...7/IMG_1377.jpg |
send that sh1t back

That nick looks superficial to me. It looks like impact damage. Does the wheel run true (I suspect it will, as the damage doesn't look too bad)?
If it were me and neuvation suggested that I work it out with an abrasive, I wouldn't have a problem with that. But the brake pad may get chewed up if the burr is not removed. |
Sand it smooth, keep riding.

Bah, hardly a concern.
Heck, some rims even come with "nicks" or "gouges" in the braking surface which act as wear indicators. |
Its fine.

Seems awfully wasteful to send something back just because of a scratch, in an area that's going to be scratched anyway. |
you guys are a little ******y. Are you planning on RIDING the wheels? Yes you say? Just making sure because some people just want to appear to ride bikes.
STFU and ride the wheels |
He should send it back because it's Neuvation, not because of the nick.

Sanded it down till my nail didn't get caught, and then sanded it down a hair more. I can still see the nick but I think the issue is resolved.
I called them and they told me to let them know if it was an issue and I could feel the brake surface nicks. With it filed down, the area is a little lower than the rim surrounding it, but I doubt it'll be an issue. |
also, all those pics, and no decent pics of the wheelset? for shame.

that a boy.

Non-issue. You take the burr out like you did and you'll never notice.
For those that are saying to send it back.... ....it's a tool not a jewel. |

I don't have any issues keeping decals on wheels, but the decals on one of the wheels had a different color scheme for each side of one of the wheels. It was a little ridiculous... I actually like the decals with the silver blackground but the other ones were a bit over the top. I can't get the glue off one side of one of the wheels even after multiple tries of rubbing alcohol, so I'm going to have to do that while using the hair dryer tomorrow. The wheels look the same as my old ones did, but they're probably close to 100 grams lighter for wheelset weight due to the newer wheels and lack of decals. Right now, I'm more worried about my bike fitting. I'm atleast a month behind on training since I haven't been able to ride without my back issue popping up for over a month... |
