Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New bike build suggestions

I'm looking to build a bike, but it won't be a typical build.

Single chainring in front and possibly an internal shifting hub.

Anyone do anything like this? Are there any decent internal hubs and shifters or should I just scrap the idea?

I have also seen pictures here of someones Yamaguchi, which is perhaps the most beautiful bike I have ever seen, and would love to know how they have that set up.

Any help would be apreciated.

Yes, there are decent internal gear hubs. Check out Rohloff, Shimano's Nexus and Alfine, or SRAM's iMotion. Pay attention to the spacing, though; some are 130mm (a.k.a. road) and some are 135mm (a.k.a. mountain). Sturmey-Archer is also a possibility, though I think they're considered a step below the others.
