Knee Injury!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Knee Injury!

I recently injured my knee snowboarding, and I was just wondering if any of you have had a similar experience. Do knee injuries come back to haunt you when back on the bike? I don't really know what's wrong with it yet, doctors have flip-flopped from acl tear to fracture and back. How long has it taken you guys to get back riding after an injury like this? I've got a 24 hour race coming up soon, hope I can make it.

I tore my ACL on January 2nd. The one activity the surgeon said I could do was ride a bike. It is all pain tolerant. I rode for 50min this weekend with little added pain and will do that every other day going forward. Other than a little swelling and some pain under the knee cap, I had no lasting effect.

Depending on your severity, a 24 hour bike ride will tax good knees.

The first exercise my PT gave me following ACL repair was riding a stationary bike.

24 hour race with a bum knee sounds like a recipe for diasater, but that's just me.

You will likely need an MRI to diagnose the tear.

good luck.

Yeah, I got an MRI after the X-Ray came out clean for fractures... Of course, I had been riding the stationary bike per the doctor's instruction based on the assumption that it was my acl when he called to say that he now thought it was a fracture....
