It's new wheel time and I need your $.02
I just started my first go-fast bike build (cervelo r3) and have a few wheelsets in mind. For my intended use (LD events) performance is a close second to reliability. BTW, I'm ~135#.
Here's the list:
Easton ea90 sl or slx
Rol race sl
Rol volant
Souls s3.0
Soul s4.0
Kinlin XR-240 / DT Swiss 240s / Aerolite build
Kinlin XR-270 / DT Swiss 240s / Aerolite build
All of these seem like a good value, but where is the best bang for the buck in terms of reliability, performance, customer service?

Also, all of these wheels are under $550. If you have another suggestion in that price range, by all means throw it onto the pile.

New wheel that will be up on Sean's site in the next couple of weeks. I don't have them....yet...maybe this summer but we are having a child in March so the bike budget will be shrinking.
Total weight 1400g
Will handle up to 160psi
Will be able to use normal brake pads (I don't get it but this is what Sean told me)
Cost....well I don't know if I should post a cost because Sean doesn't have it posted...but the number he was telling me was in the $700-$800 range. I honestly told Sean he should charge more for them...to me these are in competition with the Williams 38mm carbon wheels which are much more expensive and also heavier. So take that price as heresy.
Total weight 1400g
Will handle up to 160psi
Will be able to use normal brake pads (I don't get it but this is what Sean told me)

Ok pull my S4.0 carbon suggestion...they will be more than that. The S4.0 alloy is a great wheel, I have a set. I wouldn't bother with the S3.0. Sean does have a new version of the S2.0 coming out in the spring that will be the same general price as the current 2.0 but will be stronger at the same ~1300g weight. That might be something you would want to look at.

Ok well since i am the same weight and also looking for a wheelset in the same price range, i hope you don't mind me asking a question that relates to yours.
Out of all the above wheelsets (and others not yet mentioned) within that $550 price range, which is the best at climbing?
For example, how much better are the Soul 2.0's vs the Soul 4.0's vs. etc...
EDIT: I ask because i will be doing alot of climbing training over the next season to prepare for a ride that will be very difficult for me (maybe not others) of 175 mi over 2 days with 11k Ft of climbing.

How do you like the hubs on the Soul wheels Chopper? I know the DT's and the Easton's are quality pieces but the Soul and Rol are unfamiliar to me.

The hubs seem great to me...they spin very freely. I have never used Rol wheels so can't comment there but I have used but DT Swiss and Easton and both are great...right up there with my Record hubs. I don't know if I would put the Souls on the same level but they are close IMO.

If you want the group buy formula hubs and Kinlin 30mm rims to go with them, I am considering pasing them on. I switched to Campy for the bike they were intended for. They are 24/28. You will have to get them built up, though. PM me if you are interested.

get the 3.0 soul wheels have sean build you the light version, which is about 1450 grams, I have the 4.0 and love them . yes alittle slow up hills but very fast down and on flats, also have the 5.2 clinchers and love them also. its up to you, he can build the 3.0 with the soul hubs. the soul hubs spin better than dt swiss 240s hubs i have mounted to dv 46 clinchers. they spin like white hubs, ( seem like forever )

Well, my fellow Rohnert Parkian, I've put a bit over 2K miles on my M28 Aero 3's, which I was very happy with until tonight, when I went to true them and discovered nasty cracks in the rims around a couple of the spoke nipples on the rear. I'm 6'2", 235#, though, so YMMV. From previous threads I've learned two things: 1. I'm not the first guy this has happened to. 2. Neuvation customer service is really good and I'll probably have a replacement wheel in short order. Given that I got the Neuvations to replace the Ritchey WCS Protocols that came on my BD Mercier because that rear wheel only lasted 600 miles, let's just say I'll give the replacement Neuvation a go while considering other options.

On another note you Sir will soon have a PM about maybe doing a ride or something.
