2 things learned building my Soloist Team
1) Push the rubber donuts up the cable inside the frame with a piece of cable housing; mark the desired location of the donut with fingernail or piece of tape on the housing "tool," having first laid the cable housing up against the frame.
2) Dremel cutoff wheel makes a dandy cable housing cutter; use the side of the wheel to dress the cut perfectly square. The tang of a small file, or the point of a caulk hook works just fine t' dress the hole.
As the derailleur cable bends in the Rival along-the-handlebar setup are rather severe, a light dressing of moly (dow #41) grease on the cable seems to be just wonderful.
From there, waiting on the derailleur hanger to get here... sigh. GD retailer! "That's weird; I'll get that out to you first thing Monday." That means at the end of the day Tuedsay, doesn't it (*****hole)! Ground, no less. A week later, the part was last seen in Kentucky.
When the bike is together, THEN I will applaud them for getting me an '08 frame so fast, so "cheap," so very nice!

would you recommend a small amount of grease on the cables as they round the corner in the bottom bracket cable guide?

after riding one for two years i'll add when you get a creaking sound happening, clean and grease the seatpost assembly, particularly the brass shim before anything else. it's a great workhorse of a frame, but i had to liberally grease the seatpost/shim about every two months to keep it quiet. not a big deal but good to know.

Thanks for the creakin' tips! I did grease the shim and post; my mountain bike, Giant VT, came stock with a reducer shim, a real creaker! Absolute clean, no grit, and then grease was the ticket, until the frame broke, just at the base of the shim... now I run a seat post that slip fits w/o the shim. If it comes to that, I'll try the bit o' tape, thanks!
On the bottom bracket cable guide, light grease I'd recommend, yes, but I prefer "MolyKote" (It's a brand name for molybendum disufide - don' know if spellin' is o.k. on that) powder rubbed into the cable.
For less than '09 complete + tax, I've got 09 Rival; the seat, bars and stem I wanted; and Easton EA 90SL wheels, with decent tyres mounted. It was worth the effort, for me.
I use high quality lubricants and thread compound ("anti sieze" - get the kind that's aluminum compatible) as well; many assemblers use cheap ass grease. The steerer is cut to my liking, the cables are routed the way I want, etc.
The 08 complete is out there, but not with compact crank, besides all the other stuff I din' want, e.g. th' stock wheels.
The frame was here three days after placing the order, not bad, eh? I like the 08 paint (and price) better.
Yes, I did type a " ' "! Imagine that! Don' make me edit your posts; I'm a harsh editor.
