Do compact windbreakers work?
Was wondering if it was worth investing $100 or so in those ultra-lightweight windbreakers/windstoppers for the bike that can be compacted into your back pocket. I getting pretty cold on rides when the temp drops to below 50F, but I think most of it is due to wind chill, and I'm wondering if I'd be comfortable if I go with such a jersey + windbreaker, or if I still need the fleece vest that I'm still wearing over my jersey. (It gets hot on the climbs.)

My windbreaker is quite compact and works just fine though it's as old as I am.
BTW - nice sig.

yep, I always take my jacket in my back pocket if I'm not sure about the temp or rain, and many times I start a cold ride and later take it off. way better than heavy fleece, imo.

I use a lightweight vest instead. It's easier to fold up and put into a pocket, easier to get on or off while riding and doesn't flap as much.

I picked up a Canari windbreaker from Dick's for thirty. It works well and easily folds up. Don't think you need to spend a hundred.

My Capoforma vest ($20 new) from ebay is awesome. It's amazing how the clothes keep wind out of a light weight vest. It's even nice as an extra layer under a non-windstopper outlayer is perfect.

I have both a wind breaker and a heavier jacket. The windbreaker I have folds up in a pouch that straps to my waiste (the first link). It works fine until it gets really cold, then I use a jacket (second link). I like Kucharik because his quality is good and you get a lot for your money.
