Music Suggestions for Trainer Riding ?
I'm looking for fast music for trainer rideing. My favorites for this purpose are
The Ramones,
The Pogues,
Violent Femmes.
Anyone have any suggestions along those lines ??
I've read a few old threads, and since I live in a cave and don't know most of the bands listed I did sample a bunch at Amazon's mp3 section, but it's a bit laborious and most did not suit me.

I live in Wisconsin and live on the trainer all winter. Spinning to music is a small step up from a waste of time. If the music matters, you probably aren't doing it right. The day my trainer riding became useful was the day I switched to Spinervals DVD, CTS DVD's, etc..

jrobe is right.... if you are bored and not into it, no amount of stimulus will help. this being my 3rd winter in wisconsin after living my whole life in Oklahoma, i find myself really lacking the mental HTFU'ness necessary. however, i do find that Tool, goes along way towards keeping me focused. that and ALOT of Ritalin!
Get some spinervals, find a shop that has computrainers, ride with friends. it all helps.

For threshold I like electronica, stuff like Underworld or Orbital. I don't normally listen to this stuff but it has the right relentless rhythm that helps me settle into the right cadence. Metal is really my thing though so for V02 and up I like pretty extreme stuff.
I find lately though watching cycling footage is what really gets me amped and helps me nail the hard intervals. The Aussie road champs with Phil Liggett were great.

How about some Clash, The Smiths, Jane's Addiction, The Police (love the drums-Stewart Copeland), Devo, Prodigy, Static-X, Foo Fighters...still thinking.
Riding on a trainer is boring. Nothing to keep you awake so to speak. It is a perfect way to keep you motivated. Some people need music to give them a rhythm to ride. I know I like music to help tune out the other stuff that may distract me. I don't think that he is doing something wrong. It's easy to train in the warmer weather when you have others to motivate you whether you talk with them or just ride. Training by yourself takes a lot of HTFU'ness as you guys say. It takes a lot of dedication to motivate one's self.

Led Zeppelin. I've got over 6 hours of their stuff in my iPod and sometimes ride until I've listened to it all. Difficulty sometimes arises when I too violently play the air drums with no hands on the bars on descents.

Like Stallionforce, I also like loooooonnnngggg electronica stuff without many breaks between songs. Go through this guy's mixes, Deep Z and find something you like. Some of my favorites are 031, 032, 040, 058, and this one LINK.
Cheers!

Just about anything Joe Satriani. His stuff It's 99% instrumental and 80% up tempo. Start with Engines of Creation. Good workout music.

Concert DVDs for me. Audio alone isn't enough to keep me distracted on the trainer. Dave Matthews Band (Carter Beauford) and Genesis (Chester Thompson) have prominent places. {I've been a drummer for some decades and nothing matters as much as the drummer.}
I can run up decent base miles if there's enough variety going on to keep me distracted.

Find some good cycling clips on youtube...
Find some good trance / dance music (140+ bpm) for the headphones...
Get a waterbottle, fan, and towel...
And make it hurt!

Seems like you grew up in the same era of music as I did. Therefore I'd think you'd like bands like (this is from memory since my trainer laptop is sitting next to my trainer) Rancid, Urge Overkill, CIV, 311, Green Day, Zebrahead, Linkin Park, Pixies.
For music closer to that era, Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Black Flag, one off hits from Suicidal Tendencies, Angry Samoans, etc.
Electronic - I like Paul Oakenfold (sp?) too, and for some reason I like a CD I got with a Top Gear magazine ("Top Gear Baseline", meant to "test" your car's subs). Orbital too. And one more I forget. Fat Boy Slim? Something like that.
And my brothers' bands: URT, Shovel Full of Dirt, Marshal Artist, Tunnel of Love (maybe not the last one as much). Check out my helmet cams for music from them. I have full versions available and my brothers are okay with me "distributing" the music.

I only listen to Lou Bega's 'Mambo #5' and The Baha Men's 'Who Let the Dogs Out'. I have them on repeat for every ride I ever do.

On a trainer or treadmill or exercise bike music is the ONLY way I can do it..
I don't listen to a lot of rock but I really enjoy some Radiohead or Coldplay
I've got some hip-hop mixes that bet even you old farts would like but I don't know how to upload them
My very favorite is electro though, my girl made me a mix of like 500 songs that I just put on shuffle, I can drop some of my favorite titles if anyone here is interested

Uber Goober
Highway Star by Deep Purple, Crossroads by Eric Clapton, Break on Through by the Doors come to mind.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be browsing Amazon for songs and/or albums to download. Last winter I was able to get on the road enough to leave my new trainer in the box, but this year weather, family & job keep getting in the way. My musical interests are pretty varied normally, but I seem to have a pretty narrow range when it comes to trainer riding, and it's mostly music that I wouldn't normally listen to very much. I may check into some of the video suggestions too, but right now I'm fine riding with my eyes closed and spinning away for an hour+.
