Clif, Luna, Mojo Bar recall (peanut flavors)

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wonder if mine count. I have a subscription on Amazon for Clif Bars, and this time I decided to go with Crunchy Peanut Butter. Awesome.

I also just bought some Peanut butter from the store yesterday.

Last I heard, only PB from one particular factory is suspect. The big name end-consumer PB brands like Jif and Skippy were not involved.

I know. I haven't received the new shipment yet, so I can't exactly look at the dates yet.

Correct. I meant anything made with PB. Apparently, the factory supplies lots of PB to many different food producers and it's not readily traceable.

The manufacturers know whether or not they bought PB from this factory so it should be traceable. Maybe not to each individual cookie, but at least to the brand names.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have two boxes (24 bars total) of crunchy peanut butter bars that all have a date in july 09. Looks like I'm going to have to swap them for something else.

I was going to eat some soon if it wasn't for this thread. So thanks a ton!

Save the wrappers. If you die, your family can sue Clif Bar for damages.

My Amazon subscription order got here today. The dates for Crunchy Peanut Butter are 21JUN09 to 01OCT09 and 03NOV09 to 28NOV09.

My bars got here, I looked at them, and they say 03OCT09. Lol. I'm safe by 2 days. I called them and asked how confident they are in those dates, and they said extremely.

Fri, January 30 2009 - Clif Bar & Company Expands Its Voluntary Nationwide Recall Of CLIF® and LUNA® Branded Bars Containing Peanut Butter

BERKELEY, Calif., January 30, 2009 – Clif Bar & Company today expanded its voluntary and precautionary recall of CLIF® and LUNA® branded bars because of concerns that the recalled bars contain peanut products that were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), which is the focus of an ongoing Salmonella investigation. Clif Bar took this action in response to PCA’s recent expansion of its peanut product recall to include all peanut products produced in PCA’s Blakely, Georgia plant since January 1, 2007.

The following Clif Bar & Company products, with “Best By/Sell By” dates on each bar ranging as shown below, all sizes and packages, are included in the initial and expanded voluntary recall:

CLIF BAR Crunchy Peanut Butter
BEST BY or SELL BY: 09OCT08 to 31DEC09
CLIF BAR Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch
BEST BY or SELL BY: 09OCT08 to 31DEC09
CLIF BAR Peanut Toffee Buzz®
BEST BY or SELL BY: 09OCT08 to 31DEC09
CLIF Builder’s® Peanut Butter
SELL BY: 20SEP08 to 31DEC09
CLIF Kid Organic ZBaR™ Peanut Butter
BEST BY: 21OCT08 to 31DEC09
LUNA Nutz Over Chocolate®
BEST BY: 28OCT08 to 31DEC09
LUNA® Peanut Butter Cookie
BEST BY: 28OCT08 to 31DEC09
All MOJO® and MOJO® Dipped bars
BEST BY: 01SEP07 to 31OCT09

The recalled products were sold in all types of retail stores throughout the United States. No other CLIF® or LUNA® products or flavors are included in this recall.

At this time, none of the recalled products has tested positive for Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Web site at www.cdc.gov or call 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them but retain the “Best By/Sell By” code found on the back of the package. Consumers with questions or who would like a refund may contact Clif Bar & Company at 1-888-847-2770. Details also can be found at www.clifbar.com.

About Clif Bar & Company Clif Bar & Company (www.clifbar.com) is a leading maker of all-natural and organic energy and nutrition foods and drinks, including the CLIF® BAR energy bar and LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®. Focused on great food and sustainability, Clif Bar & Company works diligently to reduce its footprint on the planet from the field to the final product.

Confident my ass. I ate 5 of these things.

Luckily I haven't gotten sick, so they're probably fine. I guess I'll get my money for them, and then I dunno. Maybe I'll eat them anyway, maybe not.

Yeah, but as I understand it the problem with salmonella isn't just that it's an active infective agent itself, but that it leaves toxins in the food whose effects aren't mitigated by cooking. Those create problems.

I've eaten four or five of the affected bars. I've only got a few left. I'll probably just finish them off.

Urp... gotta go!

I've eaten a whole box of peanut crunch clif bars before this whole salmonella thing popped up and I don't feel any worse for wear.
